The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

Revealing the presence of wetiko in our modern world behind every form of destruction our species is carrying out, both individual and collective, Paul Levy shows how this mind-virus is so embedded in our psyches that it is almost undetectable - and it is our blindness to it that gives wetiko its power.

Publisher's Summary
A mesmerizing mix of Charles Bukowski, Hunter S. Thompson, and Philip K. Dick, Chameleo is a true account of what happened in a seedy Southern California town when an enthusiastic and unrepentant heroin addict named Dion Fuller sheltered a US marine who'd stolen night vision goggles, and perhaps a few top secret files, from a nearby military base. Dion found himself arrested (under the ostensible auspices of The Patriot Act) for conspiring with international terrorists to smuggle top-secret military equipment out of Camp Pendleton. The fact that Dion had absolutely nothing to do with international terrorists, smuggling, top-secret military equipment, or Camp Pendleton didn't seem to bother the military. He was released from jail after a six day long Abu Ghraib-style interrogation. Subsequently he believed himself under intense government scrutiny and, he suspected, the subject of bizarre experimentation involving "cloaking" - electro-optical camouflage so extreme it renders observers practically invisible from a distance of some meters - by the Department of Homeland Security. Hallucination? Perhaps - except Robert Guffey, an English teacher and Dion's friend, tracked down and interviewed one of the scientists behind the project, codenamed Chameleo, an experimental technology that appears to have been stolen by the US Department of Defense and deployed on American soil. More shocking still, Guffey discovered that the DoD has been experimenting with its newest technologies on a number of American citizens. A condensed version of this story was the cover feature of Fortean Times magazine (September 2013).

This one was really far-fetched to me. If you are ready for a story where invisible cloak technology collides with junkies, then you’ll love this. Very entertaining. Sometimes deserves some editing. Overall enjoyable but I had to search a few of the topics, thinking it was too far-fetched at times.

Unsubstantiated nonsense
This book is essentially the author attempting to convince you that his meth addicted friends paranoid delusions are a government conspiracy. As the book progresses you are basically listening to the author's grip on reality slowly slipping (not that slowly).
The entire time I pitied the narrator who did such an amazing job of imbuing life into this dreck. He almost made it listenable.
Avoid this garbage. I wish I could give the story zero stars, but audible doesn't allow that

What did I just listen to?
One of my favorite authors Jacques Vallee recommended this book, so I of course read it immediately. But I am left wondering: what did I just read/listen to?! This is a bizarre, somewhat amateurish rambling tale that—honestly—at several points I thought might be a parody! Having finished it, I’m not sure if it was a bad and unfunny parody or just a goofy story.
Is it possible that Deon was really harassed? Sure! Is it possible that the government has invisibility suits? I guess! The ideas make sense for sure and it seems possible. But is it also possible that some or most of this was paranoid ranting by a drug addict? I think that is also possible.
Most importantly, even if everything is 100% true and as they hypothesize, where are we? In my opinion, we’re not really much further along. We know the government can do these things, right? I guess I just feel like I didn’t learn anything here.

Not a bad read
John Bruce II
I first heard Mr Guffey on The Higherside Chats and his interview really got me interested in his book.I thought the first 2/3 or so of the book were exciting and constantly had me on edge as to what would happen next. I have no doubt that the government has incredible technology at their fingertips that most people would label as total science fiction. Well, this book might just change their minds about that. A frightening tale that most people with any interest in government/corporate corruption and abuse will appreciate. The narration was pretty good but towards the end of the book the narrator totally changes Deon’s voice and that threw me off,but otherwise he did a good job. I would recommend this book especially since it’s included with an Audible premium account

Too close for comfort
This book hits a little close to home. I had a similar experience after exposing a global child sex trafficking ring. Although it's currently ongoing, it has take awhile for me to "put the pieces together". They make it VERY OBVIOUS about what they're doing, and offer little piddly-ass gifts or favors (I guess in hopes that I'll ignore the exploitation of children) and have placed hidden cameras and listening devices in my home. I've installed several apps designed to detect the devices, and they all alert in the same places. Additionally, people from social media are somehow privy to all of my correspondence and use "gangstalking" techniques in response to any new exposures. YouTubers know personal details from my private emails and my private life, even poking fun at little details.
I'm aware that the purpose is to "discredit" me to whatever extent possible, to dig up dirt to use against me it to just humiliate me into dropping the subject. I'm trying to convince them that it would be in their best interests (as a well-organized group) to hold the high-ranking government officials accountable for these atrocities so they don't end up becoming the "patsies" who go to prison while the actual culprits continue to have their fun torturing, terrifying, raping, murdering and canabilizing children.
I know this review doesn't seem to say much about the book itself, but is intended to validate the Truth that the American government will go to extreme measures to get WHATEVER it is that they want, and have no qualms about engaging in mass mind-contol attempts on the community that is being awakened to the Truth of their behaviors. Almost as though they think they're entitled to prey upon the must innocent and vulnerable members of the society they profess to serve.

Interesting to say the least
I'm not sure what to say. This was a bit of a whirlwind of a story. In general it was well written but the story itself is rather bizzare and hard to beleive but yet still believable to a degree. I'm probably going to have to digest the story longer to really come to any conclusion because I know my initial are to call bs.

Both Sides of US Anti-Intellectualism!
There was so much prigressivr hope for America in 1776! But in the 21st century the utter stupidity of the place and the people is staggering and mind blowing! This is a country that views rightwing ignorance is seen as a virtue and where the author - obviously unaware of his country's perpetual crimes against humanity - compares Hitler to Stalin and fascism to Communism! If you told him that Hitler killed over 40 million Soviet men, women and children during WWII, or that the US was an ally of Stalin and the USSR during WWII - he would probably suffer yet another psychological meltdown! It is interesting how the subject of the book is about governmental lying on a massive scale - and yet all the anti-Soviet Cold War lies go undetected and uncorrected! This is important because the US has become a cesspit of fascism through a hundred years of anti-Socialist propaganda to the point where authors such as this nolonger possess the cognitive ability to perceive the difference between fascism and Socialism! Oh yeah - there's gun-touting and out of control cops, a lying military, apes dressed as soldiers, drugs, gang stalking and leap-ftogging robots!

Considering this is a true retelling of actual events, all I can say is thank god I’m British and not American!
For the reality if that’s what it is in America right now of personal drug induced reality is truly horrifying and that’s without the madness of government agencies running round doing all kinds of experiments on its own people, is a psychotic mix of dictatorial anarchy, with no form of control.
What ever happened to you America, Land of the Free and Home of the Brave???
