Publisher's Summary

Everyone in the charming Hudson Valley town of Oak Falls expected Flynn Keegan, their handsome blond "Golden Boy", to make it big in Hollywood. So when veterinarian Kate Turner identifies a bone dug up by one of her dog patients as human, no one thinks back 10 years to remember Flynn. Until DNA and a smashed skull prove he was murdered.

With few clues available to the forensic team, the grieving family begs Kate to investigate. His four closest friends plead ignorance. Neighbors and teachers remember the charismatic young man but offer no real help.

Meanwhile, Kate is juggling her eccentric house-call clients, a silly potbellied-pig wedding, and the sudden reappearance of an old college boyfriend. Anthropologist Jeremy Engels, who returns like Indiana Jones from an African dig, is eager to rekindle their romance and offer his help. Together, they plan to crash Flynn's high school reunion, a recreation of his senior prom, and interview his fellow students.

Time isn't of the essence with a 10-year-old cold case, right? Her Gramps is convinced that the killer is long gone, just like the illegally captured brown bear she helped save, now roaming free in the woods. But Kate soon discovers that chains of love can be as strong as those made of steel-and some deadly secrets have put her next on the kill list.

it's a mystery but she doesn't solve it

I think I figured out what I dislike about this book line, while the main character gathers the information, she doesn't actually figure anything out or understand it. also this author seems to have a strong bias against bikers. this series is confusing but it isn't a difficult listen, and for the price (free) it isn't bad

Enjoyable twisting plot. Had no clue who the killer was. The revelation was a complete suprise.

A Fun Diversion

I've found Kate Turner to be an enjoyable character, full of warmth, humor and wit. Since I take the entire concept of this series with a large grain of salt, I simply enjoy these audiobooks as nice diversions from stressful days. Kate, her friend Logan, and now her re-emerging college flame Jeremy, are characters of enjoyable strength and perseverance.

Honestly, I may enjoy the vet stories as much or more than the actual mystery itself. They're often witty, silly, crazy, or just plain out there. In one sense, it reminds me of reading the great James Herriot books ("All Creatures Great and Small") when I was young. It's the stories that keep me coming back.

Campy

This book was so boring and campy I could not even finish it. I was looking for a mystery/thriller. I like books that keep me thinking but this one could not hold my attention

Chained

Another great story in the series. I like the way the main character, Kate Turner, is taking time to develop relationships and not moving too quickly. The end was a bit fantastic, but the mystery and story were good. I will continue the series though it looks like I will have to read them as this is the last book I see here!

Great series , Amazing narrator !!

An avid reader of traditional books it took me some time to get into audio books . But once I did the trouble I had was finding both a good book and a narrator who did the book justice. All too often I'll find a book that I'm interested in but the narration is so terrible I can't get into it at all in audio form . Well I'm happy to say I've found the perfect combination of great book and an amazing narrator with Eileen Brady and Caroline Shaffer!!! I look forward to finding everything she has available. Thank you

Enjoyed this book the best of all in the series

This book seemed to be the end of the series, explaining why Kate seemed compelled to solve mysteries, settling the romantic aspect in her life, and developing such a rapport with her clientele. I, at first, thought that telling of the animal visits could have been less and the details of the mystery solving could have been more, but by this book I really enjoyed the various animal situations and Kate’s regular customers. To me, it made the story enjoyable and worth listening to. I must have zoned out about the bear because I don’t know what it had to do with the story and the ending.
