Publisher's Summary

The Shadowhunters must catch a killer in Edwardian London in this dangerous and romantic sequel to the number one New York Times best-selling novel Chain of Gold, from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cassandra Clare. Chain of Iron is a Shadowhunters novel.

Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has loved since childhood. She has a new life in London with her best friend, Lucie Herondale, and James’ charming companions, the Merry Thieves. She is about to be reunited with her beloved father. And she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade.

But the truth is far grimmer. James and Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save Cordelia’s reputation. James is in love with the mysterious Grace Blackthorn, whose brother, Jesse, died years ago in a terrible accident. Cortana burns Cordelia’s hand when she touches it, while her father has grown bitter and angry. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace.

Together with the Merry Thieves, Cordelia, James and Lucie must follow the trail of the knife-wielding killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. All the while, each is keeping a shocking secret: Lucie, that she plans to raise Jesse from the dead, Cordelia, that she has sworn a dangerous oath of loyalty to a mysterious power and James, that he is being drawn further each night into the dark web of his grandfather, the arch-demon Belial. And that he himself may be the killer they seek.

Enjoyed the story

I really liked the storyline, but some things don't need 5 minutes of description, get to the point. Those are the parts where if I was reading this rather than listening, I would skim 😂

Disappointing story

The Last Hours is thinly veiled indulgence on Cassie Claire's part. Basically a fanfic

By the Angel!

I know I say this every single time but Cassie’s books make me get some perspective back.

Feeling the characters’ emotions, realizing what’s truly important in life, like family, friends and love, helps me endure even the darkest of times!

I honestly can’t wait for Chain of Thorns now!

7 Stars for the story and the narration

This is one of the rare cases when I wish book star ratings went to 7. I love many of the books I read and therefore give them 5 stars. But this one is exceptional! Of course I wish I never had to wait so long for the next instalment! The characters are all memorable and either loveable or loathsome for their own part in the story.

Really disappointing

I absolutely love Cassandra Clare and I have read every series from the start. When the books first took us back in time to meet Tessa Gray in the mortal instruments it was just fantastic so I was excited for this series and following Cordelia, James, Matthew and co.

I enjoyed the Lady Midnight series as Emma Carstairs was a great character. Even when it took us to an alternative universe and the ridiculous three way relationship with Mark, Cristina and Kieran. I kept going as overall the books were still good and so were the characters.

Every series has had real diversity with truly well developed characters. from the start we had gay love interests, strong female leads and not everyone was white.

But the cracks had started to show - I began to feel dejavu. It's beginning to feel like the same story on repeat. Two attractive leads who can't be together for some inane reason? Gay/bisexual parabiti? Love triangle? Male lead things he is a murdere? yes we have heard it all before...

Also, the female characters in this book are just complete morons. It''s not helped that the narrator seems to voice them like they are needy, whingy 12 years olds. There seems to be far less fighting as well and more inane sub plots that don't seem to add much to the overall story. The alcoholism storyline is good and I haven't seen that in a YA book before. So that's one positive.

But I am afraid that this may be my first DNF for Cassandra Clare as I just couldn't care less if James finally removes the bracelet. Although I do love the Jesse/Lucy plot and wonder if that should have been more central.

Enthralling

Firstly, Finty Williams is just perfect as the Narrator for this series! I highly recommend The Audiobook. It is Beautifully performed and her accent and male/female voices were so on point! I just cant recommend her enough!

As for Story... well, I wanted to climb In and slap some sense into the characters! I was so angry, and frustrated and Emotional! Ugh! I loved Every frustrating Minute, Every Tender Moment, every Epic Battle! I'm a huge fan of this series so far, but I firmly believe that the best thing for me would have been to read this all in one go, once the series was completed... I might then have at least kept some of my sanity... but ofcourse that would require me to have the willpower to resist a new Shadowhunters book, which ofcourse is completely impossible.

Another amazing book from Clare!

The Last Hours books have been my favourites from Cassandra Clare so far. I’m really glad that Finty Williams returned to narrate the audiobook and hope she’ll be back for the third.

Loved it!

I really enjoyed this book; it was a great story and I liked the narration. It would be nice if they added the chapter names to the book though (at the moment it just says Chapter 1 etc, which aren't even accurate because of the introduction to the book), it annoyed me a little but it's not the end of the world!

I love the shadowhunters adventures

As this is book 2, it doesn't really need q review because you'll already be hooked and dying and start the next one. This is the only book of Cassie Clares that I haven't scored as 5 stars, I found this one a little too predictable and I wasn't keen with the jumping back in time to find out about Gracies past. However, I love all the characters of the merry thieves, Cordillia and Lucy, not forgetting Will, Tessa, Magnus and Jem which I can never have enough of. I loved the story line and really looking forward to the last book in the series. These series really keep you reading or listening into the early hours and not to be missed.

Exciting and Gripping - ending too long

The story was exciting and provided twists, James and Daisy was far too drawn out.
