Animal activist Rae and his team of fox hunt saboteurs ‘sabs’ live on the edge, getting between hunters, horses, and hounds as they try to protect foxes and disrupt the hunt. With a number of team injuries and retirements, Rae seeks out a famous sab to join them. He’s surprised to find Cash is a recent unforgettable one-night stand he met in a Tottenham bar. Bruised and jaded by a previous lover in the sab scene, Cash has moved to London where he lives a peaceful life, sharing a flat with Lucky, one his workmate mechanics. Cash is reluctant to be drawn back into the sab world but he is mesmerised by Rae and the two start a bumpy relationship which puts them on a collision course with a desperate master of the hunt and his corrupt local police.

Phew, this had me on tenterhooks the whole time, this wasn’t a relaxing read! The descriptions of the violence and chaos of the interventions to the hunt were visceral and scary—these men and women are very brave risk-takers! But props to Garrett Leigh: this was a completely original and gripping story and I couldn’t put it down. The sab scenes were so compelling I almost found the romance vaguely distracting—there was a lot of relationship angst as Rae or Cash would flare up at the other and storm off. 🎧 UK voice artist Shaun Grindell gave Cash a nice Irish accent and he handled the intensity of the action and emotion extremely well.
