Publisher's Summary

Coehlo's poignant, deeply spiritual tale of Pilar, an independent and practical yet restless young woman whose life is forever changed by an encounter with a childhood friend who has grown to be a mesmerizing and handsome seminarian.

Together they embark on a journey through the French Pyrenees, where they explore the "[F]eminine face of God" and make the dramatic discovery that love is God.

Critic Reviews

"The story springs to life through the expert treatment of Stephanie Zimbalist. The writing itself is compelling, and in the audio format listeners experience the story as if Zimbalist is telling it personally to them. Her accent and spot-on enunciation convey the protagonist's vacillation between skepticism and enthusiasm over the course of this spiritual love story, and flesh out the depths and subtleties of her emotional journey." A little more religious than his other books

I love his writing, but wasn't as fascinated with this story because it was more like ten disappointing years of my life than his other books were, but it is a genuine story.

Love and Miracles

Thoroughly enjoyed this story filled with love and miracles . I wept at one point. I don't remember the last time I've done that when reading (listening) to a book. But, a gentle, lasting smile and peaceful feeling when completed.

Amazing!

Every novel I have read by Coelho unfolds a deep fundamental change in the life of the characters, this inspires readers to look at their own lives and set out on their own journeys. This novel fed my soul as a part of my journey from brokenness to greater wholeness. Two childhood friends reunite after 10 years, they travel from Spain to the surrounding communities of the Pyrenees mountains. On their journey Pilar and her friend talk of love, forgiveness and how to live a life of adventure while fufilling their life dreams. This novel combines both a spiritual journey and the quest for love. Coelho weaves many beautiful sub-themes; the relationship between erotic love and divine love, the need to dream and making those dreams come true, the fear of seeing your loved one hurt by your decisions, the feminine face of God,and the discovery that love guides you back to faith. “If pain must come, may it come quickly. Because I have a life to live, and I need to live it in the best way possible. If he has to make a choice, may he make it now. Then I will either wait for him or forget him.” "I had never forgotten love, even when it had deemed me unworthy of fighting for it" ― Paulo Coelho, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept

Great story for anyone on the spiritual path

I really like this book, I got a little long points, but overall I love the fact and can connect with it in a way of being a really busy entrepreneur myself and having my own lofty goals that the rest of the world values, but then also trying to find that universal spark of love and realizing the power of both. I love this author for the most part and I like this book like I like to some extent, most of his work. this is great for anyone dealing with romance and balancing it with worldly responsibilities at the same time.
