Publisher's Summary

Has the "settle-for-less" financial plan become your plan for wealth? That plan sounds a little something like this:

"Graduate from college, get a good job, save 10% of your paycheck, buy a used car, cancel the movie channels, quit drinking expensive Starbucks mocha lattes, save and penny-pinch your life away, trust your life-savings to the stock market, and one day, when you are oh, say, 65 years old, you can retire rich."

Since you were old enough to hold a job, you've been hoodwinked to believe that wealth can be created by blindly trusting in the uncontrollable and unpredictable markets: the housing market, the stock market, and the job market. I call this soul-sucking, dream-stealing dogma "The Slowlane" - an impotent financial gamble that dubiously promises wealth in a wheelchair.

Accept the Slowlane as your financial roadmap and your financial future will blow carelessly asunder on a sailboat of hope: hope you can get a job and keep it, hope the stock market doesn't tank, hope the economy rebounds, hope, hope, and hope. Do you really want hope to be the centerpiece of your family's financial plan?

Drive the Slowlane road and you will find your life deteriorate into a miserable exhibition about what you cannot do, versus what you can. For those who don't want a lifetime subscription to "settle-for-less", there is an alternative; an expressway to extraordinary wealth capable of burning a trail to financial independence faster than any road out there. And shockingly, this road has nothing to do with jobs, 401(k), mutual funds, or a lifestyle of mediocrity.

Demand more. Change lanes and find your explosive wealth accelerator. Hit the Fastlane, crack the code to wealth, and find out how to live rich for a lifetime.

Great content just too long

Absolutely love what MJ is writing about. I love on the fast lane and fully subscribe to his thinking.

My only wish was that instead of writing the book purely for slow laners he focused more on the meat instead of why it’s so bad to be building wealth slow in a job. I feel he talks in circles and continually rams home similar points throughout to fluff out the text.

If you’re already in the Fastlane I suggest listening to the last 1/4 of the book. You’ll get more than your monies worth from that content. I will continue to buy MJ’s books as I believe he provides immense value.

Don't waste a credit here.

One of the very few books I've found unlistenable on Audible. Positive reviews for this title are baffling to the point of being suspicious. I couldn't even make it to the halfway mark.

What it is: a testosterone-laden adolescent worldview with very little actionable advice.

If someone like this dude can become a millionaire in record time, you can too. You're welcome!

8 hours of self-aggrandising

-Too long
- Irresponsible advice where 99.7% population earn less than US$1mpa & perform essential roles like nurses, teachers, police, emergency workers
- 90% business ventures fail within 5y (author)
- perhaps society should pay the real hero’s in our society more sponsored by the fortunate wealthy like the author, sport stars, entertainers etc
- 5% info valuable
- authors voice not engaging IMO for audio books

wasn't sold at first.

the book had a slow start, "ok we get it slow lane thinking is backward thinking". I think the type of person who buys this book is not the type of person that needs thoroughly convincing. BUT stick with it!! (I have a suspicion that he wrote it this way to weed out the 'get rich easy' crowd) this is such a paradigm shift im really going to read it again because I think the stuff in here are foundations you need to shift your thinking about wealth vs rich vs time. Thankyou dearly MJ DeMarco i really hope for my own sake I put the stuff here into practice.

It was ok

Mostly general concepts that are not especially unique. The writer makes some good points about how wealth works but provides almost no practical steps for the average person to enact them

12 hours of my life that I’ll never get back.

To be blunt this is among the worst books that I’ve ever read.

Ironically a book about the fast lane spends the first 12 chapters explaining over and over again what the slow lane is. I’ll save you the time - The slow lane is doing what society tells you that you should do when it comes to career and money. Go to school, get a job, save, invest and retire comfortably.

When the book finally speaks about the fast lane you learn that the fast lane is simply starting a business that has the ability to have a small impact on a large amount of people, or alternatively have large impact on a smaller amount of people. That’s it. That’s the secret. You’re welcome.

Ultimately it’s evident that MJ DeMarco simply enjoys the sound of his own voice.

I’d give this a hard miss, but if you insist on throwing your money away, start at chapter 13 so that you don’t throw your time away too.

Good information, a little too long

The first half of this book seems to keep trying to sell itself. there are definitely nuggets of wisdom here, you just have to exercise some patience to find it.

A slap in the face wake up call

From start to finish, the author provided a no nonsense interpretation of how to escape the rat race in today’s real world. The mantra of work and life long held as true and passed down for generations is wholesomely challenged. A great read (or listen)!
