Real life insights on what it takes to make it in a relationship with an entrepreneur.Entrepreneurs are always on the go, looking for the next "startup" challenge. And while they lead very intensely rewarding lives, time is always short and relationships are often long-distant and stressed because of extended periods apart. Coping with these, and other obstacles, are critical if entrepreneurs and their partners intend on staying together—and staying happy.
In Startup Life, Brad Feld - a Boulder, Colorado-based entrepreneur turned-venture capitalist - shares his own personal experiences with his wife, Amy, offering a series of rich insights into successfully leading a balanced life as a human being who wants to play as hard as he works and who wants to be as fulfilled in life and in work. With this book, Feld distills his 20 years of experience in this field to addresses how the village of startup people can put aside their workaholic ways and lead rewarding lives in all respects.
We are a startup couple and until now felt alone in our anxieties that plague our relationship. Brad and Amy helped us feel a sense of community in a world that can be very isolating. Thank you!!
Very factual, pragmatic, and straightforward. Lots of examples, easy to follow. Will recommend to friends.
Thank you both, Brad and Amy, for giving me hope for the future ! :-)
As a young entrepreneur just starting out in a serious relationship and being involved in both a new startup and an established business, I found the book quite insightful. I have given it to my better half as well, as sometimes she struggles with how I think and this book did a great job of explaining some of the quirks of living and being in a relationship with an entrepreneur.
It also gave me some insights on areas I can focus on improving and making a conscious effort to address in order to honour my girlfriend.
Very worthwhile listen in my opinion.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the honest dialogue from Brad's and Amy's marriage with more stories from other entrepreneur couples. This book is different than most relationship books because it deals specifically with the entrepreneur couple. This is not just fluff, Brad has done his research on entrepreneur relationships.
Which character – as performed by Brad Feld – was your favorite?
My favorite entrepreneur character (don't remember his name) who stayed with his wife when she was sick vs. finishing hike to top of mountain. I don't want to spoil the story!
What insight do you think you’ll apply from Startup Life?
There are basic communication tools that can be used in relationships with spouse to deal with conflict or meltdowns. Brad and Amy have a great way of helping each other through meltdowns
