Editorial reviews

In this groundbreaking leadership guide, Simon Sinek reveals the secret to fostering trust, cultivating cooperation and achieving exceptional teamwork: putting your own needs last.

How do we understand team dynamics? What makes some teams click and others fall apart? How can we lead more cohesive and effective teams while ensuring that every team member feels valued and fulfilled?

Best-selling author and internationally acclaimed speaker, Simon Sinek sheds light on these crucial questions in Leaders Eat Last. Drawing on developing research in the fields of psychology, neuroscience and more, this must-listen leadership guide provides searing insights into how the best leaders inspire outstanding teamwork by creating a sense of security and putting the needs of their people first.

Leaders Eat Last is a management and personal development audiobook for listeners who want their work and their lives to make a difference. Leaders at all levels are sure to come back to Sinek for inspiration, again and again.

Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the audiobook edition of Leaders Eat Last, written and read by Simon Sinek.

Simon Sinek's recent video on 'The Millennial Question' went viral with over 150 million views. In Leaders Eat Last, Sinek explores how leaders can inspire cooperation and change, and focuses on the millennial generation in the workplace.

Imagine a world where almost everyone wakes up inspired to go to work. This is not a crazy, idealised notion. In many successful organisations, great leaders are creating environments in which teams trust each other so deeply that they would put their lives on the line for each other.

Yet other teams, no matter what incentives were offered, are doomed to infighting, fragmentation and failure. Why?

Today's workplaces tend to be full of cynicism, paranoia and self-interest. But the best organisations foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a Circle of Safety. It separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Everyone feels they belong and all energies are devoted to facing the common enemy and seizing big opportunities.

As in Start with Why, Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories, from the military to manufacturing, from government to investment banking. He shows that leaders who are willing to eat last are rewarded with deeply loyal colleagues who will stop at nothing to advance their vision. It's amazing how well it works.

Good ideas but twisted truths

I enjoyed the book but particular ideas came across a little too far stretched. Worth the read if you want a different business perspective to leadership and don't a bit of classic America centralised thoughts

A guide to feel good chemicals

I love Simon Sinek's work as he goes that extra layer deeper into understanding and explaining how things work.

I particularly enjoyed how he relates a lot of the human traits we have around leadership and following leaders come back to the four major feel good chemicals and their relationship to each other as well as the relationship to our physiology and psychology.

Parts of it were dry case studies but as an audio book it's easier to motor through those sections a bit more passively listening whilst taking home the highlight reel messages of the book.

Why Leaders eat last

On point. Harder to do in the private sector, but sensible, astute and doable.

Exceptional deeper lessons on leadership

I've read countless leadership books, ones that delve into the various aspects and duplicable qualities to practice and skills top work on.

This book has added so much to that paradigm by exploring eras in history and the changes that technology has wrought upon business and leadership models especially through the last century.

This book is so helpful, in fact critical, in today's world and I found that it was the answer to and validation of so many beliefs and notions I feel had become evident in my own research and work in this area.

The way Simon then takes the next step into the world of our young and the high risk of addiction we all face at a time that has never been overflowing with such distraction is the most helpful factual part of the book.

I come away from my reading of it with a number of people to pass this onto that I normally share such great work with along with practical actionable steps I can take in my business and with my family and friends to teach and communicate to help them embrace why this is helpful material for them to be a part of implementing.

Thank you so much for doing this important work.

Glad another has the same opinions as me

I spent the majority of my time listening while nodding in agreement. Disappointed the acknowledgements were not included in the recording.
