Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of Daring Greatly by Brené Brown, read by Karen White.

Every time we are introduced to someone new, try to be creative, or start a difficult conversation, we take a risk. We feel uncertain and exposed. We feel vulnerable. Most of us try to fight those feelings - we strive to appear perfect.

In a powerful new vision, Dr. Brené Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability and dispels the widely accepted myth that it's a weakness. She argues that in truth, vulnerability is strength, and when we shut ourselves off from vulnerability - from revealing our true selves - we distance ourselves from the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives.

Daring Greatly is the culmination of 12 years of groundbreaking social research across every area of our lives, including home, relationships, work, and parenting. It is an invitation to be courageous, to show up and let ourselves be seen, even when there are no guarantees. This is vulnerability. This is daring greatly.

I'm afraid the narrator was not good! I think Brene delivers the content with a much more engaging manner!

    "Offputting narrator"

The narrator sounds like a computer reading it out: it's completely disconcerting. I like Brene Brown but I would enjoy this audiobook 100x more with a different narrator.

    "Amazing book, horrible narration."

Like everyone has already said, the narration is horrible and robotic. It took me a long time to bring myself to listen to this because the narration is terrible but the book itself is so brilliant that I'm glad I stuck it out. You do get used to the narration over time but it's the worst I have encountered in an audiobook.

    "Awful narrator"

I love Brene Brown but sadly couldn't listen to this because of the narrator. Feel totally jipped by this and will now have to be the print copy. Brene Brown is such a pleasure to listen, but without her narrating this book, I just couldn't bear it.

    "The voice is fine!"

I held off buying this audio book for so long because of the bad reviews regarding the reader. Seriously, the reading is fine especially as the book progresses. There is so much valuable advice and insight in this book. Highly recommended.

Loved every minute of this book. I feel empowered and have a new insight on shame and vulnerability yet a sense of ease and familiarity with the teachings. a book that I could, and will, listen to again and again.

    "Worst narrator!"

I love Brene Brown and have all her books. I just can't listen to this one because of the narrator. She is definitely one of the worst narrators I've heard on Audible and not at all representative of the voice that Brene writes in. :(

    "A life changing experience. "

I can't recommend this enough. I would never have believed a book like this could have touched me but it blew my mind. This woman is humorous and honest about her trials and resistance to her own studies results. This is a confronting a challenging approach to our society that calls for us all to open up and have the courage to be vulnerable. It will challenge everything you have been taught and confront some deeply held values. For me (a cynical non believer in any type of introspective book) it was a life changing read that was at a terrible time a life saver. Guilt, Shame, Holding up a wall? Try vulnerability, it might just change your life.

"Great audio edition of life-changing book"

Karen White gives lends Bren󠈣e Brown's fantastic work credibility and some pathos with her narration. Like many others, I was introduced to Brown's work by watching her viral TED talk. Hearing White's narration reminded me of watching the TED talk, except the book is far, far richer. Thanks!

    "Why stepping up is important"

Listened some chapters couple of times. Written in a very engaging and interesting way, including author's personal experience and struggles with opening up to vulnerability and the lessons learned. Brene Brown know's how to suck you into her book!
Reader Karen is totally ok, I just listened to audio lectures "performed" by Brene herself and preferred her speech and style.

    "Earnestness destroys Brené's natural humour"

Having already listened to The Power of Vulnerability, I was disappointed to find that that's Brene Brown presenting the identical material to this book to an audience, but that this version has a terrible narrator that really put me off. Her earnestness, emphasising her every single word, really irritated me, and at times I wondered if it was in fact a computer reading rather than a human being because it sounded so odd. It was really disappointing, and I would heartily recommend you choose The Power of Vulnerability over this - you get exactly the same material but presented in Brene Brown's engaging, humorous style, rather than in the strange stilted version this narrator offers, accidentally removing all humour from the book.

If you could sum up Daring Greatly in three words, what would they be?

Loved the content but hated the monotone of the robotic voice.

How could the performance have been better?

By being narrated by the author.

"Great content, shame about the delivery..."

The reader's delivery was so lifeless, which totally contradicted Brene's writing. Nevertheless I persevered, as the concepts in the book were very interesting and thought provoking.

Perhaps if I hadn't heard/seen Brene speak, probably would be less critical.

"Not the same without Brene narrating."
If you could sum up Daring Greatly in three words, what would they be?

Amazing book BUT, when Brene is not narrating it the warmth, enthusiasm for the subject, and vulnerability is not there for me so it loses a lot.

How could the performance have been better?

If it was narrated by Brene.

I have tried on numerous occasions, to listen to this book and I just can't.
I'm so sorry, I'm sure the narrator is very professional but I was so disappointed that Brene wasn't reading this. I just couldn't stick with it and ended up buying the book and reading it instead.
The content is amazing but if you are used to brene's work you will be used to her voice .. and having this lady narrate just lost me

"The gift of understanding vulnerability and 'I am enough'"

I've read this book and now listened to it - and enjoyed the valuable reminders even more the second time around. I enjoyed it so much I've bought it for 4 people - what better than the gift of understanding vulnerability and 'I am enough'?

A few tears, a few laughs and loads of 'Aha!' moments.

As for the reading, Brené does a great job of narrating (no surprise there) but I did find it a bit slow so I sped it up .5 and it was perfect. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

    "Excellent book but robotic narrator"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The book is amazing and really gives some fantastic insights to our nature.

How could the performance have been better?

The narrator struggled to sound like she had even been vulnerable. This was made worse by post processing that often left her sounding like a robot. It almost spoiled the book for me.
