Publisher's Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook edition of Business for Punks, written and read by James Watt.

Don't waste your time on b******t business plans. Forget sales. Put everything on the line for what you believe in. These mantras have turned BrewDog into one of the world's fastest-growing drinks brands, famous for beers, bars and crowdfunding.

Founded by a pair of young Scots with a passion for great beer, BrewDog has catalysed the craft beer revolution, rewritten the record books and inadvertently forged a whole new approach to business.

In Business for Punks, BrewDog cofounder James Watt bottles the essence of this success. From finances ('chase down every cent') to marketing ('lead with the crusade, not the product') this is an anarchic, indispensable guide to thriving on your own terms.

Picked this book on spur of the moment but so glad I finished it. Definitely worth reading - full of practical advice, humour and a great story!

"exactly what you want and expect"

    Thought provoking from the start.
Proof that following what happened in the past is a sure fire way to failure. Business today is about excellent products that people want, not cheap nastiness that large corporations tell us we want. This book has great examples and guidance on how to stand out.
Thinking that can apply to any start up - not only beer brands.

    "Nothing revolutionary"

As hard as the author wishes it wasn't this is just another re hash of the same old same old but delivered at pace in a broad Scottish accent. It's ok, up beat but a bit lacking in substance.

    "Simple advice worth listening to"

I found this a good book overall. It's a different take on starting your own business and following through on your dreams. The sections are well thought out and help you make sense of so many of the things you need to deal with and prioritise when starting a new business.

    "Selfishness stinks"

Listening about how the owner of Brew Dog thinks has actually put me off the company.

If everyone showed such disregard for rules and others the world would be am even worse place.

Would you try another book written by James Watt or narrated by James Watt?

    No

Would you be willing to try another book from James Watt? Why or why not?

No - he gets lost in his own self arrogance.

Did Business for Punks inspire you to do anything?

    Watch his story on BBC

    Any additional comments?

The story behind this business is great. The owner/author gets lost in his own self importance and that invalidates the useful content. Its an interesting listen if you can detract from the arrogance.

    "Didn't hit the mark"

He has an inspiring story and business but the advice in this book, whist I'm sure is the authors applied philosophy, has many cracks in for most businesses. I don't mind his opinionated approach but the clichés wear thin after a while. If you didn't know he had a £50M company you'd be forgiven for thinking he's trying too hard. Too hard to be different. Too hard to be anti the system. Had a good premise but for me, it fell a little short.

    "Filled with clichés"

If punk is a lot of noise with little content then this book is definitely punk. It does contain some useful ideas but could have been delivered in under 1 hour if all the clichés and grandstanding were removed.

    "A lot of fun"

The gloves are off and a straight forward approach to launching a great business. A lot of fun as they are so cavalier.... which worked out. Enjoyed it!
