Critic Reviews

"One of this country’s most exciting crime novelists...he has established the engaging character of Irish Detective Superintendent Katie Maguire in a series of three fine crime novels. If you have not read one, read all four now." ( Daily Mail)

Buried

Detailed, well thought out story, well written but I would have preferred Katie to be more law abiding.
Narration good.

Mostly enjoyed

Any book narrated by Aoife McMahon is a delight to listen to. This is a great story line but a little too much graphic violence for me. I almost had to stop listening at times.

Great crime suspense

Great story narrated brilliantly by Aoife McMahon. Plenty of suspense and a few thriller moments where I had to hit the pause button! Good to see a hero who has some human traits and flaws.

brilliant

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, this is one of the best written books i have read in a long time. The story line is unusual and keeps you wanting to get to the next chapter.

What does Aoife McMahon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

i think hearing the accents really gave the characters a real Irish identity. the story would not have been half as good in my australian accent.

Wait till it gets going.

Where does Buried rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I rank it very good. Normally I dont like women readers, but as the main character was female I got used to it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Buried?

A couple of surprise twists just when I had thought that I had predicted the ending.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

It was a "dark" book, not really intended for "enjoyment".

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

If anything, it made me a little sad.

Any additional comments?

I was almost put off by the broad Irish accents at the start. Fortunately I persisted, and the accents moderated. Thus my heading ... I could not have listened to the whole book if the broad accents had continued.

So graphic, descriptive and thrilling - started tough with the accent but drawn too it and could not stop listening - I did not think it necessary for Katie and Alan to sleep together - or they could of remembered each other from the past case but overall loved it x

DEAD - but by no means buried.....

WOW.

Graham Masterton continues to amaze me how different and damn right compelling he makes each new Katie McGuire novel.

I've been waiting ages for this to appear on Audible, with eager anticipation.

It didn't disappoint.

Initially I thought the story was a little slow but all of a sudden BOOM! it grabs you. And it doesn't let go...

As ever you try to predict the ending but this keeps you guessing...

All characters are so believable and as ever, the Irish narration adds context and authenticity.

This is probably my favourite KM novel to date and I finished it this evening drained, yet enthralled....

I cannot WAIT for the next....

Superb. Highly recommended!

Another blinder from Masterton

A well written believable storyline.
The narration was not as good as the previous narration. Some of the characters voices were a nightmare!! Unfortunately the narrator continues the series!! But I'm now hooked so I've already bought the next one.

Enjoyed the story but a bit graphic

Very good story which was enhanced by an excellent performance. The only drawback was the overly graphic descriptions of injuries etc which were rather "yuck"

Wonderful narrator

A wonderfully narrated book full of whimsical lilting Irish phrases that give it an authentic feel and, for me, made it a joy to hear. The storyline held my attention, although there were some implausible turns of direction in the latter stages.

Gruesome

What did you like most about Buried?

A well written, extremely well narrated Audio book but I wish that I had read the previous reviews before starting to listen to the book. I did finish it but it was far too descriptive for me as far as the gruesome parts go. I will certainly be more careful before purchasing another of this author's works.

Very Buried

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Amazing description of the Irish probelms

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously Katie as the main character as the whole story revolves around her

Have you listened to any of Aoife McMahon’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This was a brilliant reading and made the story really live.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Thee rscue of John and Kiner

Any additional comments?

Some of the details are more than horrifying but that was the story line.

Bullets, nails and drills plus C4 and grenades

A good plot with DS Katie Maguire at the helm plus all the usual suspects and some old characters, fast paced and full of action, and a few twists and complication that make Katie Maguire a very dangerous woman to work for or even know.

But be warned that this is violent and gory like few books, nothing is left to the imagination even the noises are described in detail, no one is safe not puppies or babies, if it can be killed it probably will be and in the most gruesome or deliberate manner.

Apart from that it is a great story, that is hard to put down
