Story
In his last mission, Conor Maguire was called back into action by his handler, Ricardo, to go after a man who helped facilitate the terror attacks that devastated America. When Ricardo next pays Conor a visit, it's at the behest of a shadowy collective of patriots determined to purge the government of those who sold out the nation. It should have been a simple mission, a short trip to "punch tickets" in the way that Conor had successfully done hundreds of times around the world. But nothing in this mission will be simple.

Story
It was a hard-learned lesson but Jim Powell finally understood that isolating his group of friends and family was no longer the best idea. It was a strategy that had once kept them safe, but lately seemed to be doing exactly the opposite. Staying out of town and away from people had led to them missing critical intelligence—that there were people in their community actively plotting against Jim.
Publisher's Summary
When newcomers arrive in Conor Maguire's territory, they bring word of an enemy approaching from the north. They wear military uniforms, carry military weapons, and drive military trucks. Like a plaque of locusts, they sweep through every town in their path and pick it clean. In their wake, they leave ashes and atrocity.
When it appears this enemy is on a collision course with their community, Conor must build an army to intercept them. This is no easy task since his daughter's abrasive manner has divided the community. Their hasty alliance will be tested. Roles and relationships will be challenged.
Against this larger, more highly trained force, it falls on Conor to do what he does best. To rain chaos, savagery, and utter devastation upon his enemy. After all, there's a reason they call him "The Mad Mick".
The Mad Mick Series is a post-apocalyptic fan favorite. There's no prepper tips or helpful information, just fast-paced post-apocalyptic adventure.

More of the madness
Mr. Horton is among the top authors in the genre and he doesn't disappoint. This book was hard to put down and really easy to read and follow along with the story and especially the characters. But why the reason for only 4 stars.
To be honest, I don't know. Something was missing which is rare for Franklin's work. This one seemed over the top and the heroics of the Mad Mick forced to an extent.
Kevin Pierce didn't disappoint and it is almost like listening to a friend who is a really good storyteller tell a tale. He is that good.
The premise of the book was good, as we know in these end of the world tales, we see bad people. These were the worst of the bad and well, that is where I think we were missing. This evil group rode from town to town taking what they wanted and killing who the wanted. Yet, no one left the town and passed the "be on the lookout word" aside from the homeless lady. Everyone just stayed in and let them be evil.
There there is cast.
Conor - far too good at what he does. A killer for good, almost like a modern-day robin hood, yet the town he protects wants nothing to do with him. Conor finds a way to embarrasses "the Bond" crew and goes to work.
The Bond - A trained army like group of gang members who Conor is set to collide with.
Barb - An unlikable bully who is maybe the worst female supporting character in any series. She does have a partial awakening and gets a view of how others look at her.
The town - a city full of brainwashed followers who aren't capable of self-protection and don't like women.
Shannon, Regas, and Doc - endearing characters who make the book enjoyable. Shannon comes into her own.
Wayne and crew - fitting in nicely, seems that Wayne and Connor have sparked a kinship between two hard men that have seen the ugly the world has to offer.
Yes, this is a good read and has great action sequences however, I can't say that this is near the top of Franklin Horton's work.
Maybe you'll enjoy it.

One of the best series out there !!!!
If you have not read this author's work, then you are missing out big time. I like the detail in the characters, they simply come to life in the minds eye. As you follow the characters you will experience a full range of emotions. And if that was not enough, the story lines will keep you on the edge of your seat. You will be tempted to go without sleep just to get to the end.

Another home run by Franklin Horton!
Book 3 in the Mad Mick series is a blockbuster of post-apocalyptic fiction! Non-stop action, a believable story and great characters! Franklin has a great writing style that keeps you on the edge of your seat and Kevin Pierce’s narration skill is outstanding! His ability to change tone and inflection for different characters while maintaining consistency makes you feel like you’re actually listening to the characters themselves. Well worth a listen. I loved it!

The Mad Mick does not disappoint!
What you see is what you get. This third book in the series is a worthy addition to what has become one of the most memorable characters in the post-apocalyptic genre. Straightforward, detailed, and full of action. This is the Franklin Horton trademark and it's at its best in Brutal Business. You'll enjoy it!

Mad Mick vs the Bond
Love, love, love listening to Kevin Pierce read. His talent is well suited for the Apocalyptic Scenario in general and in particular, Mad Mick.
This time the Mad Mick's daughter has some growing up to do, because the "Bond" is coming their way and they'll need the whole community to help. Doc and his daughter Shannon are going through growing pains too. The Bond is something else so Mick has to use guerilla tactics against these "werewolf Preppers" (those who'd rather murder and steal from the more prepared instead of preparing themselves). It's a wonderful thing that he doesn't opt to just push the Bond into a different direction. Enjoyed it!!

5 stars isnt enough
Epic isnt the word to describe this book as the word isnt quite enough. Characters were impeccable, real, funny, and hard ass. loved the Witt of the characters and the story line was perfect as a sailing boat on the calmest of oceans on a sunny day. Rollercoaster out of control was how it felt reading this. voice over guy was spit on too and for once I was impressed at his effort at the accents of the English(Irish). My only surprise and disappointment was that the name of the main character didn't really match up. He wasnt dark enough, evil enough, nothing scary at all infact. The leader of his enemy was more scary and warranted such a name moreso. He was just a nice guy if I'm honest. a nice guy who stood up for his lot. too nice. too perfect. He really was just a Liam Neeson. Would much prefer some Dexter! Great book though. Defo recommend it's in my top 5 but hey thos author always is.

accent's
I realy love the serries and there is the American love for the Irish even the supporters of Republicans , i know of former terrorists on both sides loyalist and Republican ,moving to the States and starting new lives. but Kevin Pearce's accent for Conner Maguire is so wrong its a Dublin accent I am from 15 miles from Belfast and that is not how we speak, a Roma Downy type Accent would acceptable or Liam Neeson one who do as he is fro North antrim really sorry kevin but its so wrong.
