Publisher's Summary

A realm aside from our own is the center of the realities, home to every spectrum of magic. From the beautiful to the terrible, it was all held in delicate balance by the Eternal Emperor and his children. For 10,000 years, the empire was the bastion that protected the sentient races from the darkness, but the revolution changed all that....

Jax is a pretty regular guy, has a job he tolerates, a girl he kinda, sorta loves...and he fights creatures from the UnderVerse in his sleep, leaving him covered in horrific scars when he wakes up.

When his brother vanishes and five years later he's kidnapped as well, he's given a stark choice by his asshat of a father: Go to the UnderVerse in reality, travel to the capitol of that ruined realm at the center of reality, and open a portal for the Noble Houses to return home...or die.

Slowly.

That's the good news. The bad is that he has to survive the arena first, to prove his right to go. Twelve will enter, only one can leave....

Another A** hole MC

Why as of late does it seem all alpha male MCs are protrayed as an A**? Men can be strong and caring without being an A**! My biggest issue is the lack of sex scenes. This is a pretty detailed book so why skip them? I'm not asking for detailed, graphic sex scenes but skipping those scenes all together just takes away from the story and the MC's growth as we see it. Sad thing is I've seen more romance in kid/teen and/or young adults books. Minor Spoilers, Let me understand, the MC had no issue having sex with his father's slaves. Which can and was used against him to ensure he stayed in line. But when he bonds to someone later he refuses and acts like a child. A bonded companion is connected to the MC where emotions and thoughts are shared. Would anyone actually want to feel those emotions and see those thoughts if you force your bonded to go somewhere else for romance? Honestly because of that refusal I'm not sure if I will continue the series. It really turned me off and I grew to dislike the MC. If an author is unable to write romance maybe finding someone else to help write them would be a good idea. If romance was included in this book maybe it would go from 3 stars to 4 stars.

Stick with it.

The first few chapters are slightly confusing, and the accents are really hard to understand at first. It is however, totally worth it. This is one of the best litrpgs out there. It’s pretty dark, but in all the best possible ways. The protagonist is a brute, but still clever, so there are relativity few facepalm moments. The world is awesome and the side characters are pretty good as well. The only negative after you get used to the rough accent is the way the narrator screams out all of the statistics. It’s not a deal breaker because you just cut your volume in half every time he starts bellowing numbers in your ear canal. Irritating, but the great story makes up for it.

Narrator

Decent book overall but I have no idea how no one else is mentioning how annoying the narrator is. It would probably be fine if he didn’t use such a over exaggerating Australian accent.

I enjoyed it thoroughly but

I enjoyed this story it’s in my opinion one of the best lit RPG‘s of 2020 but as everyone knows the biggest flaw in this genre is the stat and leveling system. The stat and leveling system works. My only complaint about it was the redundancy of the stat and level system in this work. I’m not saying that it didn’t make sense. I just don’t like when a character levels up 10 times at once and then have to listen to a minute and a half of “you have reached level one you have reached level two you have” and so on. Notifications should just say “your character has gained 10 levels” and then say what he’s gained by gaining those levels. Also nobody likes listening to the entire stat list more than once every chapter or two. Just give us what’s relevant and cut out the redundancy meaning just the improvements to the stats. The narrator was better than most in this genre. He kept me engaged in the story the entire time. The only complaint would be he needs to work on his female voice or sign on a female voice actor.

Brain child of a mall ninja

This book somehow is offensive to both western and eastern cultures and then still after all that manages to be boring. Everything ninja or Asian is the best, I can’t even tell wtf the MC’s accent is supposed to be since he switches between British, and Australian slang. Oh and don’t get me started on his love for the NAW GI NAW TAH. Which is a pole arm btw and not a cross between a sword and a spear. Honestly if you are going to write about things that exist in the real world, do actual research.

Ok story. Bad lit rpg

Frustrating MC that oscillates between blushing virgin, nieve fool, and possessive blood thirsty manic with anger management issues. Hit points and levels don't seem to matter. Neither does class choices for that matter. And don't get me started on female representation. Even for this genre, it was fucking awful.

Like the new story style

I enjoyed the story and the style. some of the accents were pretty shocking especially the Scottish ones. Being Scottish myself, that's probably why I thought so. Not sure if the main character is meant to be Australian or English. Either way it starts to match the character. Lots of laugh out loud moments.

Really good and refreashing book!

I really like this one. Good story. Developed unconventional characters. Dark and gritty! Loved the narration, sounded like a pirate and it fits the MC. I would have prefered explicit sex scenens, why go Disney there. 😀
