Publisher's Summary

The seventh novel in Julia Quinn's globally beloved and best-selling Bridgerton Family series, set in Regency times and now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix. This is Hyacinth's story: she's all grown up and ready to cause havoc.....

All the ton agree: there is no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. Fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken and - according to some, particularly Gareth St. Clair - probably best in small doses. But there's something about her - something charming and vexing - that grabs one and won't quite let go.

Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual - and annually discordant - Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth's every word seems a dare, and she offers to help him out with a knotty inheritance problem he's facing. However, as they delve into the mysterious St Clair history, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the past - but in each other; and that there is nothing as simple - or as complicated - as a single, perfect kiss.

Critic Reviews

"Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books take all of the classic tropes we know and love...and gives them a thoroughly modern twist. I can't focus on anything else." (Stylist)

best

This book in my favourite in the Bridgerton series. I highly recommend. Rosalyn landor (the narrator) of the series, knows how to bring the characters to life and has such a good engaging voice.

It’s in his kiss

As good as all the rest but different, which was a nice change. A little more heavy handed on the intimate scenes than the other books, but great as a ‘getting closer to the end of the series’ book. The ending was good but shame it too so long to get there. I would like to have seen Gareth’s father get more comeuppance with a certain discovery of wealth having been made much earlier in the book, and maybe have it discovered that he was the one who was actually illegitimate after his disdainful treatment of Gareth, but that’s my diabolical, revengeful nature coming out there. The book ended perfectly respectably, and as it should have...

romance and adventure

loved the air of mystery and adventure in this book, a nice little spin. Even though I know they will all live happily ever after I have to keep reading them all as they each have great surprises and differences

Intrigue, purpose & romance

Possibly my favourite one of the series so far. I was concerned it may be a little too similar to the previous six, however this chapter of the infamous family was delightful, a hint of mystery and seductive. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Great story - disappointing 2nd epilogue

This is the 6th story I've listened to in the Bridgerton series to date (Gregory's and Daphne's to follow soon) and one of my favourites. Whilst each sibling's story is different and captivating in their own way, Hyacinth's offers some mystery which makes it all the more interesting. I also love that Lady D features as a key protagonist.

The story didn't quite end as I had expected which made the addition of the 2nd epilogue all the more important in providing that closure - which it did. However, It's really disappointing that the author plagiarised herself with the use of identical wording to describe 2 particular similar scenes. Perhaps it was purposeful, but it just came off as uncreative and lazy.

All that aside, I was pleasantly surprised by Hyacinth and enjoyed her story.

Loved it

Brilliantly written and narrated, didn’t want to stop listening and certainly didn’t want book to end. A few areas had me laughing so much, and no doubt for years to come with the memory.
