Publisher's Summary

SCARLETT

He had done it again. Ravaged me. Burned me. Broken me. Given me air, only to leave me gasping, writhing. But then something changed. Something that terrified and excited me both. Something that utterly destroyed me. Something that made me whole again.

DANTE

Our love was cursed from the start. She didn't know it but I did. All she knew was that I'd lied to her, betrayed her. Done unforgivable things. Unavoidable things. Yes, I had broken promises as surely as I had broken her heart. But, just as every war has casualties, and every lie has consequences - every bastard has his reasons.

Just OK

I had trouble connecting with the characters and never felt as if the story was complete in the end. Though I'm a fan of the author, this series wasn't for me but it was ok. The quality narration worked in its favor.

ANOTHER 5-STAR LISTEN!

Seriously, I'm a R.K. Lilley fan for life! There's just something about these books that hits every button for me. This series was perfection--dramatic, over the top, romantic perfection. It's not a fairy tale romance though, it's gritty, very dark, and kind of twisted. The narration was on point and befitting of the characters, also the interplay and history amongst the characters and their relationships was just toxic enough that I just ate up every minute of the story. A definite repeat listen for both books in this series, and highly recommended for those love sick like me out there.

THIS WAR HAD CASUALTIES.... BUT LOVE TRIUMPHED

R. K. Lilley has done it again.... she's blown me away with an absolutely gripping and riveting story of love that's turned toxic... leading to spiteful jibes, witty yet wounding banter and years of regrets, heartache and painful memories. As the story slowly unfolds it introduces you to Scarlett and Dante who superficially hate each other and yet their history's are somehow entwined, their feelings run deep, their chemistry is combustible.... and that sometimes leads them to give in to angry sex. Their pasts are waiting to be told and their futures are waiting to be rewritten.

The chapters dart from present to past and back again giving an insight into like minded childhood friends whose natures were so similar that they formed an unbreakable bond... the world vs Scarlett and Dante. Scarlett was found in a dumpster, lived in a trailer with her alcoholic Grandmother and was dirt poor - whereas Dante comes from Old money, had a Trust Fund and his Mother's high expectations for him were constantly thrust in his face. Opposites in a lot of ways and yet there tempers and attitudes were so alike.

They go from being devoted friends to inseparable lovers with their hearts and futures so tightly entwined that they thought nothing and nobody could break them apart... but they were so naive and so very wrong. As the story flips back to the present you know Dante's broken Scarlett's heart but how and why will remain a mystery until the end. This bitter-sweet heartbreaking and tragic story that slowly unfurls tells a tale of innocence, brutal rape, murder, jealousy, shattered dreams, painful memories, blackmail, treachery, lost years, bitter regrets, soul shattering shocks, twists, drama, angst, manipulation, lies, secrets, selfless unconditional sacrifice and soul deep anguish that cuts deep. However, there's such a sweet backstory, a touching young love and an epic love story amongst the rubble of hate filled years of war, conflict and hostility.

This review is for the entire duet because after book 1 I just couldn't wait to listen to the now available second instalment of Scarlett and Dante's story which was utterly compelling, pulse-poundingly gripping, tearfully tragic, heartachingly beautiful and totally unforgettable. These two characters loved and lost but when the awful unbelievable truth was finally revealed they fought hard, against a vicious vindictive enemy, and eventually got their long awaited second chance to make things right, to forgive, to heal.... and to claim their HEA.

Worth a credit? I'm emotionally exhausted, mind f'd, overwhelmed, overjoyed and grateful to R. K. Lilley for yet another memorable and very creditworthy listen... thank you.

Emotional ending to the series

This book was full of ups and downs. I laughed out loud and cried while reading this one. Overall the series was good and kept me drawn in to find out what happened. There were lots of twists and sometimes Scarlett seemed very cruel but it was just part of her overall character. Definitely worth a credit

Well written love, mystery story.

Well developed characters who have been in love since their teen years and how they find their way back to each other. A lot of interesting surprises.

The story drags in this second book.

Omg?! Author kept dragging the truth out really long. It’s not until chapter 23 until the truth really slowly came out. Even until then, you don’t get the whole truth until chapter 27 and you kind of get the picture by then. I forwarded through all the past scenes until chapter 23 (kind of got the picture from the first book already). Spoil alert!!! There is a happy ending. Narrator did great as always. Sex scenes were hot and a lot so, they went through some of them quickly. Beside from prolonging the truth, this book was ok. I wouldn’t read it again though.

The BEST two book series in this genre! 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟⭐️

My favorite 2 book romance series of #childhoodfriendship #firstlove #soulmates #aconsumninglove #sweethearts #devasatinglove #romance of all time!
This is a very difficult series (two part) for me to review, as I usually leave a synopsis of my own and I’m not going to because a listener/reader really needs to experience this journey as it unfolds. So many questions, turns and unforeseen events happen in this romance I’m emotionally exhausted, but in a good way. There is so much tragedy and redemption in this series for the two protagonists, Scarlett and Dante, that I felt every emotion under the sun a person can have on this journey.
Horror, Rage, Awe, Love, Surprise, Contentment, Shame, Guilt, Amusement, Envy, Embarrassment, Frustration, Sympathy, Rage, Disgust, Anxiety, Fear, Forgiveness, and Happiness. And let me tell you that the happiness was very hard won.
uniquely enough in this story, a listener will feel sympathy for one protagonist (either Dante or Scarlett)in the first book and the 2nd book will have you reverse it those feelings. The series resolves itself but unfolds its secrets masterfully and you realize the true depth of what these two, Scarlett and Dante experienced.
Fantastic series! If I were to meet Scarlett and Dante, and asked in 6 words to describe each;
Scarlett; Feisty, Cynical, Strong, Bombshell, Witty, Wounded
Dante; Patient, Thoughtful, Devious, Sexy, Loyal, Alpha

This series has graphic sexual scenes (hot as hell) and serious situations, and violence that will make you angry
I have listened to a lot of audiobooks and can’t think of anything so similar for recommendations but these come as close as I can;
Meli Rain’s “A Harmless Little Game”
Colleen Hoover’s “Hopeless”
R.K. Lilley’s “ Bad Things”
Mia Sheridan’s “Finding Calder”
Tijan’s “Broken and Screwed” series
All of above were awesome audiobooks!

Addictive love

This is so much better than it should be. It had every new adult drama you've ever read in any other book thrown into the story. Terrible parents, bullying, conniving mean girls after the heroine's guy, blackmail, and not one but two sexual assaults on the same character. It should have been over the top melodrama, but the author somehow managed to make it sound realistic. That can only be attributed to writing talent. I chose the audiobook versions of these two books, and I was engaged in the story the entire time. There is also something special about childhood friends growing up to fall in love. Now I'm hoping that the author writes a book for Bastian, because I was intrigued by him.
