Publisher's Summary

Brass Man is the third novel in Neal Asher's popular Agent Cormac series.

On the primitive world Cull, a knight errant called Anderson hunts a dragon, not knowing that elsewhere is a resurrected brass killing machine, Mr Crane, assisting in a similar hunt. Learning that this old enemy still lives, agent Cormac pursues while scientist Mika begins discovering the horrifying truth about an ancient alien technology.

Each day is a survival struggle for the people of Cull. Ferocious insectile monsters roam their planet as they try to escape to their forefathers' starship, still orbiting far above them. But an entity with questionable motives, calling itself Dragon, assists them with genetic by-blows created out of humans and the hideous local monsters. And now the supposedly geologically inactive planet itself is increasingly suffering earthquakes....

Nice story line but probably a better book to read than listen

Villain a little too maniacal, double so in way he was voiced. Unlike when the book was written in 2023 AI (ChatGPT ) is now delivering ; it is possible to imagine what if AGI does a better job of managing us humans than our current overlords ( politicians) so book is very current today .

Almost perfect.

Ric Jerrom's voices for villains are perhaps a little too sawing and arch, and I was surprised with his choices for the accents of Cull.

It's not a bad thing, per se, but it becomes mildly bewildering when the voice you've imagined for certain characters is replaced with what sounds like a faintly West Germanic accent by way of the British Isles and the Evil Genius' laboratory.

Brass Man is one of my favourite Polity novels, and I will happily admit that I enjoyed this audiobook, in spite of myself.

I Absolutely Love This

I absolutely loved this story. I loved Mr Crane when he first appeared I always love when he appears in any of the stories. I really want another stories focused around him. I felt inexplicably happy when Mr Crane got his mind back. Mr Asher makes you feel things about character that you've known for a short amount of time. I felt sad when Occum and his Tomolon died even though we only knew him for a short amount of time. This is my second listen through of the book. I want to get the physical book at some point. I will definitely be coming back to this book in the future. Its always going to a favourite.
