Story
The killings that once plagued New Orleans are cropping up again in Seattle. The local office is stumped. I'm called out to lend a fresh set of eyes and my unique magical touch. It's only when I get there that I realize the Seattle office isn't stumped at all. They're being silenced by the Mages' Guild, a corrupt magical institution that doesn't want word to get out of what is plaguing the city. Worse, news of my magic might've slipped down to the underworld, hitting the ears of some extremely powerful demons.

Story
I thought the threat from Seattle was finished. That we showed up in time and took care of business. I hate being wrong. It really ruins my day. When Roger, the alpha of the North American pack, shows up at my door with the news that a demon has made it to the Underworld with knowledge of me, some hard decisions have to be made. Do I stay above ground, with all my magical friends, and wait for the battle to come to me? Or do I seek the demon out, and pluck the threat out by the root? I don't want my friends to die on my behalf.

Story
Something has always been missing from my life. A hole that I could never seem to fill. When I accidentally turn a coven of witches into nightmares, I find out what that something is. Magic. And it turns out, I have a crap load of it. As a latent power awakens deep inside of me, I'm exposed to one of the most powerful and corrupt organizations in the magical world - the Mages' Guild. Barely knowing a spell from a few swear words and luck, I won't be able to evade them alone. And that's when I meet him.

Story
After narrowly surviving my debut into the magical world, I made a promise to myself: no more hiding in broom closets. But with the Mages' Guild reorganizing faster than anyone thought possible, and naming me as their number one target, that promise seems a little far-fetched. Especially since my training with Callie and Dizzy, the highly experienced dual-mage pair, goes off like a cake in a cannon. Left to find someone that can fill the role, it isn't until a formal dinner party goes horribly wrong that I find the best (and worst) solution imaginable: Reagan Somerset, the leather-clad crazy woman who busted into my broom closet sanctuary in the first place.

One thing has become perfectly clear: The Mages’ Guild won’t stop coming for me until I am either under their control or dead. So rather than wait to be cornered... I’m going to take the fight to them. But Emery and I can’t do it alone. We have to assemble enough power in the magical world to rip the Guild off of their high horse. And to do that, we’ll need the shifters as well as the vampires. Except, shifters and vampires would rather kill each other than work together. And after a surprise run-in with a strangely powerful goblin, my world is slapped sideways.

Some people are ordained for greatness. Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by. He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance. He also wants me with a passion.

Publisher's Summary
Heart pounding and laugh out loud funny, USA Today best-selling author K.F. Breene will take you on a magical joy ride you won't soon forget.
Supernatural Bounty Hunter isn't the sort of thing you see on LinkedIn. But with a rare type of magic like mine, I don't have many options. Dangerous or not, the job is mine. And it was going fine, until an old-as-sin vampire stole my mark, and with it, my pay day. Knowing I'm poor and desperate, he has offered me a job. I'll have to work by his side to help solve a top secret case. Everyone knows not to trust vampires. Especially a hot elder vampire. But without any other jobs coming up, I'm stuck. As I uncover a web of lies and treachery, revealing an enemy I didn't know existed, the truth of my identity is threatened. I might make it out alive, only to end up in a gilded cage.

Entertaining New Series
Would you listen to Born in Fire again? Why?
Yes. I love this author and she has never let me down when I a seeking a bit of escapism.
What did you like best about this story?
It's storyline was a bit unique compared to what I have read to date. I like when I discover a new twist in this genre.
What about Nicole Poole’s performance did you like?
The performance was fine. The reader could have expressed Reagan's "snarkiness" a bit better though.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Inspired several chuckles throughout.
Any additional comments?
Born in Fire is a unique tale that spins multiple aspects of the paranormal genre into an action-packed story. I have purchased everything that KF Breene has written and was so excited when Born in Fire made it to Audible! Book One of the Fire and Ice Trilogy introduces Reagan; an unconventional heroine with a dry sense of humor and an affinity for resorting to violence to manage situations or emotions expediently ;) As a supernatural bounty hunter, she is forced to work with an elder vampire to make “ends meet.” Darius is OLD, refined, and extremely attractive. He also happens to be arrogant and aloof; at least on the surface. As the story unfolds Reagan and Darius begin to understand one another better and a wary friendship forms…..okay, maybe some attraction too.
Reagan has some pretty big secrets and Darius proves that he is willing to keep them for her………at least from his fellow vamps. His motives remain uncertain at this point in the trilogy, but I found myself believing that he was truly intrigued by Reagan and simply wasn’t sure what he wanted to do about it. This may be a bit of a projection on my part, as most of Breene’s leading men have initially had a surface aversion to the “lead female” in her other series. However, this technique does build tension in the plot and allows the reader to continue with the story in hopes that these characters eventually connect in a meaningful way.
Rest assured that Book Two in Fire & Ice allows us to see a bit more of Darius’ character unfold; as he remains a HUGE enigma at the close of this story. Overall I found this to be an entertaining read and look forward to the rest of the series!
Make sure you check out KF Breene’s WARRIOR CHRONICLES and DARKNESS series too. This writer has a knack for creating witty, sarcastic characters that “grow on you” over time. Her work will leave you smiling; and at times, laughing out loud!

Good book
I really enjoyed this story. Reagen, a bounty hunter who is down on her luck; Darius, a vampire prince lets say; and Dizzy & Callie the all powerful mages make for an intriguing, interesting, sardonically humorous listen that will keep you wanting more. This story has just the right blend of splendid action and passion to keep my wayward interest. The poop scene had me cracking up. I'm looking forward to book 2.

Well...okay
So...as other reviewers have noted, this premise has been done before--and in my estimation, better. Still, I was curious and the snippet I read, then listened to, seemed interesting. There's nothing technically wrong with this book and it might just be my current headspace, but I never got fully invested in the characters or the world built by the author, despite being set, to a degree, in one of my favorite places--New Orleans. There's a hint of romance, but this is Urban Fantasy, not paranormal romance, if that's what you are looking for or expecting. The big secret wasn't a surprise and while Reagan, the MC, was likeable, she and Darius, the Elder vampire she's forced to work with, just didn't catch fire in my imagination. Nicole Poole, the narrator, did a good job with the characterizations. This book might be reading/listening candy for someone else, just not for me. 2.5 stars.
The ebook was free on Kindle which got me a reduced price on Audible> I do most of my "reading" on Audible these days. I'm tempted to return it to Audible for a refund but that's not quite fair since I listened to it all the way through. It wasn't awful, but it's unlikely I listen to it again.

This book was fun to listen to!
I almost didn’t buy this book because of three major reasons for me. First, I am extremely tired of vampires and shape shifters; I am really beginning to hate vampires. Second, the cover no one in a wife beater is sexy, no one. Third, there is a second book and it’s not on audible. I have had this happen before when I like a series but audible doesn’t get all the books, it makes me mad. I am glad that I was desperate enough to try a new author and it turned out that I love this book! This book was funny, interesting and kept my attention while doing the dishes and laundry. Reagan goes in my top 5 of strong, compelling, powerful and witty women that know how to win a fight. This series will be an automatic buy for me. The narrator was perfect for Reagan because she knew exactly how to do timing during Reagan’s comedic moments. This is the best book I have read or listened to this year. I rarely give a 5 star review especially when I didn’t care for the ending but this book was 5 stars and I will listen to it again.

Badassery Galore!
Reagan Somerset has a secret. A big one. To keep her secret, she hides on the fringes of the magical world as a freelance supernatural bounty hunter.
The vampires have a secret, too, and they need Regan to help them keep it. Put between a rock and a hard place, Reagan has little choice but to play ball with the vamps. Only thing is, Reagan’s not a team player.
This is a great book with well developed characters and a sound plot. The setting is in New Orleans and Ms. Breene does an excellent job of portraying the personality and feel of the city. As I think about the book, I realize what makes this novel so enjoyable for me is the realness she portrays of New Orleans. I’ve been there. I’ve made fun of the wanna-be witches lurking in cemeteries. I can picture Reagan’s house sitting somewhere in the 9th Ward, the tourist tours going through the French Quarter and I would certainly believe that there are magic workers living in the Garden District.
That narrator for this audiobook, Ms. Nicole Poole, is one of my favorites. She has a great voice and is very adept in creating believable character voices.
This book features a snarky, supernatural bounty hunter full of badassery, a dynamic duo of crazy mages, and a sexy-as-sin Elder vampire. Listen at your own risk.

Great book!!! Didn't want to stop listening
Where does Born in Fire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book is different than what I usually listen too! But I loved the story and didn't want to stop listening to see what happened.
What other book might you compare Born in Fire to and why?
It is different than any other book that I have listened to so far. I usually read books and listen to self help books and sometimes listen to fictional stories so I don't have any other books that I can really compare this book to.
What does Nicole Poole bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voice was easy to listen to and she did a great job with the different characters in the story
Any additional comments?
Great book can't wait to listen to the next one!!

Fun Fiction
This is the first book I've read from KF and half way through I found book 2 and bought it.
It was a fun read and an even better listen.
Our heroine is caustic, sarcastic and generally just kinda badass.
The plot of the book was pretty cool too. Power hungry mage running amok and causing general havoc for not just the magical world but also the vampiric one too.
The vampire is kinda douchie but he grows on you and his true care for the heroine is sincere if not always visible.
Definitely gonna be enjoying this as a re-read which is my measure of a good book. The narration is stellar and makes the pacing of the book seem to fly by. Excellent find!!

Thoroughly enjoyable
Would you consider the audio edition of Born in Fire to be better than the print version?
Yes I prefer the audio version because I drive a lot and time passes with a good book ..this time I bought the kindle book so I then could purchase the audio book for very little !
What did you like best about this story?
I like the humour , not really laugh out loud but certainly smileable .
What about Nicole Poole’s performance did you like?
Nicole is a skilled narrator so seeing her as the narrator on this book made it a more attractive proposition. I was not disappointed
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No , didn't grab me with the intensity of some others but that's not detrimental to the book.
Any additional comments?
I have bought the second book but have had to get the kindle book as there does not appear to be an Audible version ( yet?)

Groannnnn boring and annoying
This is NOT like Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels series (despite it being pitched that if you like that series you’d like this one). I was excited to get into a new series and hoped to get other books by this author, but this book left me seriously disappointed.
The story was meandering and boring, and the heroine was a pain, and the villain monologue explaining their actions and thoughts seemed like the conclusion to a kid mystery programme like Scooby Doo (..just without the ‘pesky kids’). I simply don’t care enough to listen to the next story, or even to look up what happens.
Some don’t like Nicole Poole as a narrator, but I quite like her. I love other series that she has narrated.

HATE THE MAIN. Honestly had some good stuff here
Straight to it, I HATE this main character. she has NO redeeming qualities. she's quite frankly insane.
she talks down to everyone she meets,
she is super casual about hurting or terrorising essentially innocent people.
she has no problems Stealing from people who she considers enemies while also having no problem Stealing from people that help her.
she feels not a single ounce of remorse for accidently killing someone. even though she has the power to easily subdue them. even when meeting that person's "family" she casually bring up her killing the person like she dropped something from her desk.
around 5 hours in I'm just sitting here waiting for her good points to show themselves except even if they did why would that remove the bad ones?
the male lead has been nothing but accepting of in his eyes her strange and insanely rude behaviour and around the time I couldn't carry on listening to this book she'd just ignored everything he asked and went and stole a crap tonne of money from him. this is after she had already stole several items from him and he bought her a new magic arsenal.
I ask again WHY SHOULD I CARE IF THIS WOMAN DIES? WHY DO I KEEP LISTENING?
thus I started writing this review. I hate the main character and as such I hate the book.
as a side but important note the author very rarely describes the scenery in new environments. which makes it hard to picture exactly in detail what is happening alot of them time. the main character also talks like a 40 year old mother trying to act 20-30 combined with an older sounding voice actor this made it a little harder to listen too. but not a deal breaker by itself the VA was quite good.
