Publisher's Summary

Civil forfeiture: the government's ability to seize, keep, and sell any property of any person they believe is involved in a crime...even if that person is innocent. All it takes is for an officer of the law to "think" the items were obtained through criminal means. The person is presumed guilty and must prove innocence to get back what was taken and the government doesn't have to provide legal counsel. What if this law is just another way for the US government to supplement their income while destroying every innocent person they deem a threat? What would you do, and how far would you go to protect yourself and your family?

Joshua Anderson is the owner of a small logging business in rural Idaho, with over a million dollars in assets, and when the Forestry Service begins making bogus accusations, Joshua knows that it is only a matter of time before his country takes everything from him, including his life. But the government has no idea that Joshua will never back down setting off the Bonner Incident. It is time to take a stand, and the only question left: whose side are you on?

Thomas Watson finishes the story started with his good friend Michael Rider after he passed from an accident.

US Vs. Mountain Man

This is the ultimate anti-government, pro constitution, redneck conspiracy novel. It’s entertaining with a a good cast. But it goes overboard on Government violence against its people.

I am naive regarding Government interference and harassment of the logging industry. But when the feds threaten violence on an unarmed logger while he is working for the federal government, I just cannot fathom it. The motivation is to confiscate assets from small and big operators using unconstitutional powers from the executive branch. I don’t doubt the powers exists under the Obama Presidency, nor do I doubt the Government has abused its powers against logging and mining companies. But when a community in Idaho literally goes to war with the US, the story loses its grip on reality.

And despite how inept our media has become, it’s impossible to believe a conflict of this magnitude would not become national news in hours. Yet that is exactly what happens. With no political pressure, the President and Speaker of the House are openly waging war on a US community and the world is oblivious.

A Refreshing Storyline

I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. Without giving away the story, it was a good vs evil story that was hard to stop! Can't wait for the next book!
Condolences to the friends and families of the original author and a thank you to the one who completed this story!

bad

this book is only good if you believe that the federal government is full of incompetent men that are so gullible they could be fleeced by a kitten; the government is very skilled at catching and killing people but clearly the author thinks otherwise. The main character is a sociopath. I mean it. he is evil and uncaring. He murders for fun and takes pride in murder. The main character is the bad guy. The only likable character is Ben and thats cause he is the comic relief.

Outstanding

I really enjoyed this book. Joshua is my second favorite character from Thomas Watson. The story will intrigue you. Being a veteran some of the stuff in the book really hits close to home. I’m going to recommend these books to my fellow brothers.

Really makes you think

I didn’t think I could read a post-apocalyptic book that had a new theme, but I was wrong. Not only is the premise unique, but it is really scary to think about. Other than it freaking me out, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well described, and I was able to get a good feel for who they are as people. I can’t wait to see what Joshua does and what happens next!

Eric A. Shelman is an excellent narrator. He shows great control over pacing and tone. Dialogue and narration switches are seamless, and I enjoy listening to his voice.

Hauntingly realistic, and creatively interesting

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. I have read hundreds of prepper/SHTF books and Watson ranks among the top tier of authors for me. I love his seemless storyflow, realistic dialogue, indepth knowledge, and the lack of that wimpy, can't be a good guy and do bad things mentality. The book FEELS like real people fighting real (if extreme) situations.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes. Even throughout the opening scenes at the logging site I was intrigued by the immersion into a world I've scarcely learned about before. The characters were likable and relateable enough to draw me into the story with them. Then, the action began to take off and Joshua's kill of be killed mentality keeps you cheering him on as things escalate further.

Which character – as performed by Eric A. Shelman – was your favorite?

Naturally, I loved Joshua; but, Shelman performed all the characters exceedingly well. My favorite performance, however, was Gene and the former UFC fighter, Matt maybe. Their interaction added a strong bit of comedy to the story and reminded me of old friends.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Joshua's friends and family stood behind him and refused to let the tyrannical feds walk all over them, after the feds, themselves, had started the fight.

Any additional comments?

I was told I'd lose sleep over this book, unable to put it down. Absolutely true. Although, I got the audiobook, so, I've been walking around with it for the last 2 days, unable to hit stop.

Frighteningly believable

I loved this book, just like all of Thomas Watson's books, it was fast paced and action packed, and frighteningly believable. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put it down, the narration by Eric Shelman was fantastic as always.
