Great performance, good story! Please do book 2!

The performance by Chris Graves is by far one of the best match ups with this particular story. An absolute splendid job well done. Most books that I read, then listen to after the fact, takes a bit of time to get use to but Graves exceedingly fits this narrative.

The story: what if you trained your whole life to become a Paladin of the Light. And when you pass all the tests and training you instead are laughed out of the order for reasons unknown... well in order to continue down the path of justice and retribution you go "Assassin's Creed" style solo. That is until you become a champion of the Death Goddess herself. Dishing out Justice and retribution all the same just not as a paladin but a necromancer!

Tired of MC's who couldn't read a situation from social queues and reactions? MC's that just make snarky comments for no reason at all. Well, Vance isn't like that! He makes snarky comments and deliberate action to ACTUALLY get a read on other people, like a real person... go figure.

Note: I have read book 2. And it fleshes out why the MC is so confidant and skilled when we delve into his personal history. The MC really takes tremendous shape.

Also, this book is not for the faint of heart. Sexual content and cursing... beware.

overall I liked it

So our hero is a complete Chad but over all it was a fun experience I will say that it's really inconsistent over who exactly are the antagonists and just how much of a bad boy our chad is.

Funny ,crazy take on magic!

Ok, I expected a B book as a first entry. It did have some repetitive scenarios. But, i found it to be fun and charming, loved the crazy take on magic. I will 100% read the next one, it made me crack a grin more than a few times. Keep it up and always sharpening your style and I think you might very well be asked to write a series. Good read for me.

I wanted to like it... assassin necro is my jam.

I think it could have been good ... but I cant finish it... spoilers and offensive topics to follow.

I am unsure if the narrator made me hate the MC more , or if he was just working with what he got.
his range did seem pretty good and the female voices were well done.

the story plot points were decent I like assassins
I like necromancers , I like goddesses of death.

I dislike the MCs continuous "IM AWESOME" dialogues even to himself. it's really annoying because the author can write ... I enjoyed the writing ... just with such an arrogant MC that gets cringeworthy females fawning over him.
if the MC was tweaked or even all of his dialogue removed it would make for a better book.

Bone lord is pretty bad , which is unfortunate. An Assasin Necromancer is my shit. But he seems like he was written by someone who always RPs a celibit good guy and then decided to write a book about a Lawful Evil assasin charmer of women. It is a cringe fest of MC knife twirling and talking about his greatness in class and bed. Then throw in some dumb ass backstory , that would be fine if not written by this guy,
(what I mean is it feels tacked on , like an afterthought) about him actually being nobility and was wronged by his uncle and that justifies his murderous soul stealing tendicies...

Just let bad guys be bad guys ... dont try to make their reprehensible actions somehow justified because of their past... also stop with the harems in these books ... most writers cant manage to make a harem seem plausible.

I've only read 1 harem that actually worked in a book and it was done on the tail end of massive character development for every character and felt like the mass effect equivalent of working thru each person's personal quest chain before they were wooed by the MC .

Bone Lord just has every single Female be them Gods or mortal fawn over his supreme manliness. Also the sex scenes feel like they were written by an Incel. that may be harsh ... but this book could have been so much more. the trap laden hallways and fight scenes were so good. Then the MC had to open his mouth.

Likeable protagonists are important

It's really, really important to get the balance right with cocky/arrogant protagonists.

Assuming you care about them being likeable, that is.

This book misses that bar by a lot. Ironically, the book I read before this nails it.

Arrogant characters can be really fun, but they need to be supremely competent to not just be annoying. This book fails in that regard. Hard.

Everything the protag here has in terms of power is gifted to film. He was nothing without the dagger he lucked upon before the book. Then every victory after that is gifted to him by the death god who throws new powers at him.

The whole 'I worship no one' schtick is a lot less admirable when all your power comes from a deity.

I don't think I'll be continuing this series. maybe if I'm really in a drought. maybe.

A time killer

I picked this up while suffering from post series depression. It served it's purpose but that's about it for me. Though it is of a fantasy setting, it's an action movie of a book and the protagonist is almost a satirical class chad. There isn't much personal growth nor challenge, and finds himself surrounded by powerful beautiful women for a party. The book can be summed up with people over there to be killed, they are killed, sprinkle in some dialogue for a new kill quest or interaction, rinse and repeat.

Decent story

The story has alot of potential and the narration is good but the writing isn't the best overall. Not alot of character development, lines seem juvenile when compared to similar novels.
There was enough interest in the main characters it finish the first volume but it was a bit of a struggle.

Worst narrator I've heard in a while

The narrator pronounced dagger as DAY-GUR, which is quite annoying when it is the main characters main weapon, and sees use frequently. The book itself was below average, though the narrator did his part in ruining it

Interpersonal stuff are bad

The story could be good but the mc's relationships are badly written and unbelievable. Not sure I'm going to be able to finish this book.

it's alright

this is a run of the mill harem book with a overly competent super model of a main character that is special/lucky at every turn.
not a bad thing, but means nothing sticks out either.
the story is fairly well told and there is more oggling of females than actual naughty parts.

Chris is a talented Narrator and it shows in the life he puts into every character.
he carries this book to heights it wouldn't reach if I had read it
