AUDIBLE REVIEW
Lovely but also sad.
Thoroughly enjoyed this is audible.
Great story, though I stand by the fact they underestimated the bad guys capabilities and resourcefulness immensely.
And the terrible grammatical errors from the book just aren’t heard in audible.
BOOK REVIEW
4.5 stars due to bad proofing.
Loved this story, very entertaining and well-paced, with the added bonus of Whitney being on the takedown team.
Blending old with new, past history and present actions.
I knew when I read the blurb this would be related to Summerset’s past. It was lovely to get more of his history and meet those who are and were special to him.
Also, to be told more about his wife and her bravery was magical.
Though Dallas and the gang had the jump with certain early information, I felt they didn’t give the killer the credit or respect he deserved as a fully trained espionage double agent.
They all treated/spoke about him like he was witless/stupid, as he liked grandstanding and over thinking.
No matter he was a complete jerk and mentally focused on the retribution he believes due, no matter his views on other issues regarding sexuality, race or gender, it takes serious ability to do what he did. He still managed to fool the other 11 highly trained and perceptive operatives on his team for years.
But I feel exasperated and also annoyed when an expensive book, (paperback version in this case), has not been proofed correctly.
The amount of missing speech marks was ludicrous, but at the very end of chapter 22, right in the heated part of the interview, we also have SHE instead of HE used.
P is talking and says - (“Nothing I’ve done this side of the Atlantic outweighs the rest. You’ll have to turn me over.” SHE leered at Reo.)
This totally threw me right out of the tension of the interview, as I had to reread this paragraph to clarify who was speaking, and yes it was the male killer.
I haven’t listened to the audible book yet. The speech marks won’t matter in that version, but it will be interesting to see if that error has been rectified.

Never underestimate the bad guy

Once again this series doesn’t disappoint. By chapter 8 I was crying. Could wait to see how it ended but at the same time I didn’t want the book to end.

I love when these books give us a background look on consistent characters! These are my all time favourite stories in this series. One thing I will say is I feel like Mavis has been pregnant for the last 10 books atleast! We need baby number 2 asap

Fave series ever

Added depth to the regular characters in a series this long is always a pleasure. This was great because it showed not just a hidden past, but also a family both past and present that had been unknown. I found that the prologue didn't foreshadow what was coming so much as it gave some of it away. I knew then who Fox was and Eve's forced involvement only made that identity more certain.
I sometimes found the voice acting wasn't so good this time around due, I think, to the number of different characters. Trying to tell the voices apart was sometimes hard, like when you had the remainder of the twelve together with others like Eve, Peabody and Roarke. I usually find that the different voices work as a marker for me, but this time around it was less clear in group situations. Overall though, I enjoyed this book more than I've enjoyed one from this series in a long time.

This was a great insight into one of my favorite characters in this series.

It is always amazing how Nora Roberts comes up with a new and exciting mystery to solve whilst bringing in new characters for us to embrace. It kept me up all night, It had me laughing and crying with all my favourite people. I love the talented Susan Ericksen, I hear her voices even when reading the paper books.

Another fantastic Eve and Roark story

I have listened to every Eve Dallas book, I adore this series so much. Whilst the stories of Eve Dallas and her quest for justice are always amazing, what brings them to life is the brilliant narration from Susan Ericksen. No one could come close to maintaining each character through every book so flawlessly. Thank you for always keeping Eve, and all those vital characters, alive for many years to come.

Susan Ericksen is perfection!
