About this listen
A reclusive author, Beryl Madison finds no safe haven from months of menacing phone calls - or the tormented feeling that her every move is being watched. When the writer is found slain in her own home, Kay Scarpetta pieces together the intricate forensic evidence - while unwittingly edging closer to a killer waiting in the shadows.

A great crime novel
Cornwell is a cracking crime writer and her stories are pretty addictive. Sometimes the dialogue is a bit cliched but the story and character development makes up for it. Her deep knowledge of forensics and pathology really set her apart. Lorelei King does a fantastic job with the narration too.

Voices
I read it when it came out when I lived in London.it was great listening to it. And the voices in the audio book for it are I will say better than the recent years

Very dated
I expected these to be kinda dated as I first read a few of them when I was a teenager but yeesh Marino is bigoted af and Scarpetta doesn’t tell him to pull his head in.
I lolled at the mention of a daisy wheel printer and disk-ettes.
Ahhh the 90’s

easy listening
I love this author, her stories are engauging the characters simple but complicated at the same time this series is one for those that draws you in and keeps you wanting more.
but it's not complicated you don't need to be rocket science to follow the story there easy to relax to when your brain is overwhelmed by the day you've had.

It seemed like another version of the first book. Found it a bit boring.

Solid follow-up
Good follow-up to the first novel with characters developing well. the actual story was (imo) not as dramatic as the first. A lot more profanity too which is a shame.
