Kurz nach Sonnenaufgang wird DI Sondra Dean zum außergewöhnlichsten Tatort ihrer Karriere gerufen: dem jahrtausendealten Steinkreis von Stonehenge.
Eine Nachtwandergruppe hat dort einen Toten gefunden. Der Mann wurde brutal erschlagen und anschließend nackt auf dem sogenannten Opferstein drapiert. Eine Art steinzeitlicher Faustkeil wird neben der Leiche gefunden.
Zunächst weist vieles auf einen Ritualmord hin, doch schnell wird Sondra klar, dass die Dinge wesentlich komplizierter liegen, als es zunächst den Anschein hat. Je mehr es ihr aber gelingt, Licht ins Dunkel dieses Mysteriums zu bringen, desto mehr Schatten ihrer eigenen Vergangenheit werden in genau diesem Dunkel aufgeschreckt.
