Publisher's Summary

Few people survive the suffering that Kael Symes has experienced. Hot steel, demonic magic, and the loss of those he loved.

After escaping the horrors of Arkum Zul, Kael and his companions survive a terror-filled night on the ocean only to find themselves shipwrecked and stranded in the Wildlands. With forest tribals on the warpath and old enemies roaming the forest, Kael struggles to come to terms with what he is slowly becoming - a killer. A DeathWizard.

In the fight against the evil that threatens to consume him, Kael learns that the Dwarven Mountains far to the north may hide an ancient monolith that holds the answer to the corruption that flows in his veins.

But trekking across Talohna is a dangerous prospect. It is a world that holds its secrets close. The cost of uncovering them may very well be his soul and quite possibly his life.

Frustrating, illogical and inconsistent writing.

I really love the premise of the story and the world. The narration is brilliant in my opinion, too.
The execution is just incredibly frustrating, the characters are forever kept apart by highly inconsistent decisions. The entire series is filled with terrible, illogical decisions from characters that go against all prior character building.

If someone hunting Kael for being an evil deathwizard said: 'Why did you kill that poor innocent group of orphans?' Of course, those orphans would've been literal demons eating children, but instead of defending himself he'd say something ludicrous like: 'They deserved it! I only wish I killed more of the disgusting things!'

Even better than the first!

Better than the first! The story unravels into everything you hope for and more. Love the unpredictability!

frustrating

I have never been more frustrated by stupid decisions made by a character in any book I have ever read or listened to. there where many times where I almost returned the book due to and it ended just skipping that section of the story. performance was perfect on the other hand.

Story, characters & narrated = Brilliance.

If like me you enjoy David Gemmell, this series has every book he ever wrote and improved them. Highest praise I can give.

This book is not terrible

Instead of having a 10 or 12 hour book they dragged out to a 20 hour and just added bits and pieces that make it even worse they've had the same plot for the last two books and it's absolutely terrible
