About this listen

The Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, holds the fate of the world in his hands in the New York Times bestselling first novel in the Witcher series that inspired the Netflix show and video games.

NAMED ONE OF FORBES' GREATEST BOOK SERIES OF ALL TIME 2024

For more than a hundred years, humans, dwarves, gnomes and elves lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over and now the races are fighting once again - killing their own kind and each other.

Into this tumultuous time is born a child of prophecy, Ciri, surviving heiress of a bloody revolution, whose strange abilities can change the world - for good, or for evil...

As the threat of war hangs over the land, Geralt the Witcher must protect Ciri from those who are hunting the child for her destructive power.

But this time, Geralt may have met his match.

Great book, although the narrative is slightly incostinent in regards to action and character building set pieces. Alot better than the two short story books written before this entry, and the narrator really shines especially with his voicing of Ciri and Geralt. All in all, this is spectacular. A must read for any dark fantasy fans out there.

Extremely enjoyable!

Great and now very well known characters are set into play with the first novel in the this saga. Not overly action heavy but filled with lore and letting us know where everyone starts off before the game begins.

Good narration, can't fault the performance.

I’m a big fan of the TV series and so started listing to this book. The depth added by the novel is fantastic. The world created by Sapkowski is a rich and as detailed as the best fantasy genres and the characters are colourful and diverse. Kenny’s narration added to the amazing tapestry of the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this reading.

I really liked Peter Kenny's narration. He does the story justice and it makes the read really enjoyable. The book itself was great too.

Great story, can't wait to read the sequel.

I feel like most of this book is setting up the story for the following books. Does not feel like a lot is happening.

Nothing spectacular

Peter kenny did an excellent job narrating as had an impressive array of voices but when it came to voicing females it was difficult to tell who was talking, I think this would definitely benefit with a female co-narrator.

Needs a female co-narrator

Nice introduction to the main characters. Focus seemed more on the wizardry in this one but looking forward to the next book. The narrator does a decent job... But the female voices could use some work. All in all, not the best book I've read... But it's up there with the best.

Witchy witcher

Story wasn’t bad and neither was the narrator but he was a little bit over the top. However seeing past that it was a pretty good listen

The narrator was a bit over the top

A great book. Definitely recommended to read his previous books first, otherwise you miss a bit of the nuance.

Story structure is very different though. It took me a while to get used to.

Good follow up to The Last Wish
