Instead of talking about investing, this audiobook will focus on how blockchain technology works and how it might be used in the future. Topics you can expect to see in this book include:

  • What problem does blockchain solve?
  • How can technology make our institutions faster and less expensive?
  • Could technology replace our institutions (like governments, banks, etc.) altogether?
  • How does blockchain build trust between strangers?
  • How does blockchain increase security for transactions and contracts?
  • Can blockchain be used outside of finance?
  • What is a block?
  • What is the chain and why do we need it?
  • What’s a technical explanation of what happens in the blockchain?
  • What is mining and why do we need it?
  • Are there alternatives to mining to create a blockchain?
  • What’s the story of Bitcoin?
  • Does Bitcoin have any problems?
  • What is Ethereum, and what is a smart contract?
  • Are there other blockchain technologies I should know about?
  • How are companies adopting blockchain?
  • What regulatory hurdles might slow blockchain adoption?

Whew, that’s a lot of questions. If you’re ready to tackle them, I’m ready.

Great info

Great overall information for a beginner! Draw back would be that the book is not updated with the latest advancement/updates to the block chain

Comprehensive and Enjoyable!

I have read the first edition of this book. The book is well-structured and it covers a broad spectrum of knowledge around blockchain technology. What is interesting about this book is that it is one of the rare blockchain books that you could read the majority of it by non-tech people. The other thing is that it covers many important aspects about Blockchain starting from digital currencies, alt-coins down to non-financial applications.

I liked that book and Fill knowledge gaps about this interesting topic.

Good introduction to blockchain technology

This book was just what I was looking for. It strikes the right balance in terms of language and discussion: it's written in a way that assumes that we're not advanced enough to be writing code, but, at the same time, it doesn't assume we're complete idiots that need to read a (too) lengthy explanation either. Sure, there are other, more in-depth works that you might want to read; however, for someone just starting out, who wants to delve into what makes cryptocurrencies different and why it should interest people, this is a great starting point.

Good Information But Doesn't Quite Work On Audible

Looking to get a good foundation in blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, I bought this title even though it was so short. Overall, its a fine, pithy overview of the history and basics of blockchain and crypto, especially Ether and Bitcoin. The author is a fine writer and the book flows well. The problem is the listening to the real examples of cryptography. Again, I appreciate the author's attempt to give specific examples of how block chain is encrypted, but hearing hexidecimal numbers read over and over is not effective audibly. "0000000000000 and so on", "E36BX21X9 and so on". Hearing the phrase "and so on" used so often should signify that maybe hearing code read aloud isn't useful.
That was really only one or two chapters, though, and overall the book is useful. Unfortunately, due to the rapidly changing world of crypto, much of the information (mostly crypto value) is already out of date. I'd still recommend it, however. The narration is top notch, as fine as anything else I've listened to on Audible (except maybe Jim Dale :) ).

Not This Time

Being 53 years old, I can tell you stories about missing out on the computer revolution of the '80s, the internet revolution of the '90s, and the dotcom bubble in the early 2000s. With this book I have started my journey to the dock where I'm really hoping to not miss the boat this time.

It was a good book that gave the basics. At times when the author was planning on going down a rabbit hole, he let you know he was about to do so the reader could skip to the next chapter if they didn't want to follow him to geek wonderland.

The book was a quick and easy read... for the most part.

Good intro to Blockchain if you are unfamiliar

It honestly felt too short. but thats the point. if you have little to no coding experience or dont understand what blockchain is, this book is a good intro. Even if the technical stuff is still too hard to comprehend in this book, this book will at least get you on your feet mentally speaking so you can dive into deeper books. blockchain termonology & design is no simple task to understand. this is the 1st out of dozens of books to understand blockchain. good luck to those who are jumping into this deep, dark, cold end of the pool of knowledge!
