About this listen

This exciting novel, written months before Carrie under King's Richard Bachman pseudonym, has just been discovered and is being published for the first time ever.

Clay Blaisdell is one big mother, but his capers were just small-time until he met George Rackley. George introduced him to a hundred cons and one big idea: kidnapping the child of rich parents.

The Gerards are filthy rich, and the last twig on the family tree could be worth millions. There's only one problem: by the time the deal goes down, the brains of the partnership is dead. Or is he? Now Blaze is running into the teeth of a howling storm, and the cops are closing in. He's got a baby as a hostage, and the Crime of the Century just turned into a race against time in the white hell of the Maine woods.

Critic Reviews

" Blaze feels like an essential missing piece in [Stephen] King's oeuvre, bridging the gap between [his] occasionally derivative, but always compelling, Bachman novels and the shocking power of Carrie." ( Independent on Sunday)

I’ve always found Bachman books to be page turners and this follows suite. King can make you sympathise with his characters despite their flaws which goes to prove his craftsmanship. I found ‘Blaze’ to be a humble novel and was lost in the story right up to its sudden end.

King as Bachman never disappoints

The tension buildup never let's up. My mental comparisons with Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck ) adding to the horror ride as I know from Cujo that King is not afraid to kill off the most innocent. The narrator' s mellifluous voice excellent, especially for the persistent George. The environment and weather adding their delisiously dastardly elements in true King style. I wanted so much to take Blaze and Joe into my arms and make it all go away, to leap into the story and be the white knight (female equivalent ) who would destroy King's relentless flood of ka. If he can sometimes enter his own creation, why not I? I listened to this audiobook at 90% speed so as to relish the words and conjured images more delectably. Nice, very nice. Satisfaction (the Stones were wrong).

Brilliant King

This story captured me. The narrator was great and the tension through the story gave me anxiety in the best way. I’m so pleased I visited this story it will stay with me for sometime.

Heartbreaking edge of my seat
