About this listen

A tautly written, deliciously gothic tale of a prodigal daughter returning home to family secrets – and the man she could never forget.

Twelve years ago, Maven ‘May’ Blackthorn fled her hometown of Solstice, Vermont, making her way to New York City to reinvent herself. Now Maven’s back for her grandmother’s funeral, bringing along her daughter, Bea.

What starts as a family reunion quickly takes a turn for the worse when Maven comes face to face with lost love Oliver Croft – scion of the powerful Croft Pharmaceutical dynasty, supposed murderer of her mother and, unbeknown to anyone but Maven herself, Bea’s father.

As a Croft, Oliver belongs to the very same family that, 300 years ago, burned one of Maven's ancestors at the stake. Maven and Oliver might just be able to forge a new path with the family they created, but rumours swirl around her family's supernatural legacy. Happiness is within sight – if Maven can only avoid becoming the Blackthorns’ next casualty . . .

My first J T Geissinger read, and I loved it.
Some other reviews seem to be disappointed, citing it's differences to the authors other books, but having no expectation on what this book would be, I was very impressed.

I loved the twists! I have to say I had so much wrong. The who, the what, the why, the other who.
I was pretty suprised with myself when I found myself not only ok with, but rooting for, a pretty dark outcome half way through the book.

I will admit to feeling it was left unfinished though.
I really hope there is a second book, I still need a few answers.
It wasn't a bad place to leave it, not a cliff hanger that had me throwing something at the wall. If there is never a 2nd book, the story was tied up enough that I won't be tortured over it.
But I really really want a book 2, I think there is a bunch more spice that needs to be explored, a legacy that could be explained & a wrong that still needs to be righted.

More please!

Have read a lot of JTs books. Loved the plots from her gothic noir early and her newer series. Enjoyed the twists and turns BUT there is a lot left hanging in this story….was the gas affecting family… is there a real fantastical issue in the story? What happened to Ezra? Her job? Her grandmother? So, so unfinished

Hoping for a sequel

I LOVE Jt Geissinger, but this one fell a little bit short for me. I loved how different it was from some of her other stories, but this felt like I was missing somthing. It still reeled me in and I had to finish it, but it felt rushed and confusing. The mystery and story was great, characters young love to adults awesome! The narrator swere amazing as always!. Hopefully there's a book 2 in the future that will finish it off??...:)...

I will always be obsessed with JT Geissinger! But…this one sadly fell so short for me. I really did try so hard to get into it and refused to DNF in case the ending captured me - but it was just really weird and uncomfy. I almost feel like the book was trying too hard to be something new that the plot twists just didn’t hit in the usual JT Geissinger way. I’m sorry :(

I tried so hard to love it!
