I've just discovered Brookmyre and he's my new favourite author for this type of book. It's long but doesn't drag in any way.. nothing superfluous. He is also very much the writer.. not just relying on a good story, but painting it beautifully with his writing style. The characters are well developed and the story kept me utterly engaged. The narration was excellent.

I loved this book and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the annoying male reader. However the well conceived storyline and above all the lead female character, as well as the support characters, are wonderfully depicted. Should have bought the book on this one and may just do that as it is a well worth a second go.

A story that makes you wish you could listen to the whole book in one sitting. Just when you think you have figured it out they throw in a curveball which makes you reassess your assessment. Excellent.

What made the experience of listening to Black Widow the most enjoyable?

Really good storytelling. The story held our attention on a very long car trip from Melbourne to Sydney. It is rare to find a story to satisfy three people with very different tastes.

This book was was incredibly narrated, with an excellent storyline to back it up. It keeps you guessing and guessing right up until the end. Definitely the best book Ive read this year.

Slow start but I couldn't quite put my finger on who did what until 3/4 way through so not at all predictable and all the twists and turns kept me interested. Well narrated.

I only added a star because of the twist at the end. The first half (over 7 hours) was excruciatingly boring. I felt like it wasn’t going anywhere. It only picked up in the second half but still drawled on. The ending was its only bit of saving grace.

The plot sounded good & had rave reviews so went against my initial thought (based on the front cover) to find I wish I didn’t. I honestly couldn’t wait for it to end.
