About this listen

Shots fired on Bitter Wash Road....

Hirsch is a whistle-blower. Formerly a promising metropolitan officer, now hated and despised. Exiled to a one-cop station in South Australia’s wheatbelt. Threats. Pistol cartridge in the mailbox.

So when he heads up Bitter Wash Road to investigate gunfire and finds himself cut off without backup, there are two possibilities. Either he’s found the fugitive killers thought to be in the area - or his ‘backup’ is about to put a bullet in him.

He’s wrong on both counts. But the events that unfold turn out to be a lot more sinister.

Oh, I am loving every book this man writes. Such interesting characters & twisty plots. I am so glad to find him!

Brilliant. I love Garry’s writing. Some inaccuracies in the policing procedures but nothing too drastic and the story was rollicking. Great narration too

Couldn’t stop listening!

I live in Jamestown and I’m pretty certain I can guess which towns the author is basing his book in.
I did cringe at the pronouncing of Pitchi Richi.
I’ve travelled many of the roads out east, adventuring through the gullys and hills.
The descriptions of the country is perfect. I could almost smell the bush.
So nice to read something based where I live and work.

Binge listened- so good

A great crime novel set in the Australian rural scene where corrupt police are brought to justice.
It made a long journey much shorter because the narrator’s voice is easy to listen to.

Easy listening

Not a bad book to listen too, just didn't like the lack of an ending is all.

Great story and really well narrated!! Loved the scene setting and realistic view of the outback, some of the writing reminded me of things from the past

Fantastic outback story

The first Hirschhausen is still the best: the story, the atmosphere, the brilliant writing. Disher was doing rural noir long before anyone else, long before someone called it a genre. And he does it better than any of his imitators. Shanahan’s reading is almost perfect.

Disher at his absolute best
