Boys Will Be Boys

-
Story
How does a feminist raise a son in a world that conditions boys into entitlement, privilege and power at the expense not just of girls' humanity but also their own? All boys start innocent, but by the time they are adolescents many of them will subscribe to a view of masculinity that is openly contemptuous of women and girls. This explosive new work will look at toxic masculinity and the closed ranks of brotherhood that shape an entitled, disrespectful and potentially dangerous idea of manhood.

Story
From a young age, her life was defined by uncertainty—by trauma and strength, sadness and hope, terrible lows and wondrous highs. As a teenager she found the courage to speak up after experiencing awful and ongoing child sexual abuse. This fight to find her voice would not be her last. The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner is Grace's story, in Grace's words, on Grace's terms. Like Grace, it is sharply intelligent, deeply felt and often blisteringly funny. And, as with all her work, it offers a constructive and optimistic vision for a better future for all of us.

Clementine Ford is a person who has loved deeply, strangely and with curiosity. She is fascinated by love and how it makes its home in our hearts and believes that the way we continue to surrender ourselves to love is an act of great faith and bravery. This tender and lyrical memoir explores love in its many forms, through Clementine's own experiences. With clear eyes and an open heart, she writes about losing her adored mother far too young, about the pain and confusion of first love - both platonic and romantic - and the joy and heartache of adult love.

Story
Linda Marigliano has built a career out of performing for other people. In her day-job as an on-air presenter or in her family home, she contorted herself into 'the cool girl' or 'the good girl', and struggled to ever truly switch off. As she repeatedly over-committed and sought approval in all its guises, she started to ask herself: Why am I like this? Combing through her complex relationship with her mother, the sense of duty within her extended Italian and Chinese-Malaysian families, and the twisting turns of both her career path and her love life, she noticed a pattern emerging.

Fabulous Book!
They should make this part of the school curriculum. Not even joking. 5 stars isn’t enough to express how great this book is, I have ADHD & struggle A-LOT to keep focus but I listened to this in one day. Hannah was able to write/talk about some extremely hard topics in such an engaging & succinct way. If you’re wanting to introduce the concept of feminism (among other topics) to anyone in your life, this is the book to buy them!

A much needed pulse check
Such a well written although very sobering book by Hannah. This book was a great reminder of how so many of our country’s political, judicial, legislative and social systems are designed to benefit some and actively work against others. Hannah’s book tells us just how deep rooted the problem is. To be honest by chapter 5 it was hard not to feel slightly overwhelmed and demoralised. However, she also reminds us that it’s not okay to just ignore and be quiet about these issues just because they feel bigger than us. That it the responsibility of all of us to question and reflect what we experience and consume as well as ourselves within these systems and to have conversations, hard ones. I wish it would become a text all young people have to read.

A must read
Honestly wish this book existed when I was in high school. I might’ve saved myself a tonne of trauma just by being aware of the ways a patriarchal structure touches all aspects of society. But I’m so incredibly glad it exists now and younger generations can hear some of the profound messages Hannah delivers in this masterpiece. Now it’s time to get my whole family reading this one

Fantastic writing, a must read
Hannah presents a brilliantly written, insightful commentary of the Australian political climate and social issues in society at large in a refreshingly candid, reflective and honest format. Her writing is whip smart, relatable and hilarious without taking away from the gravity of the content being discussed. 5 stars just isn’t enough!
