Publisher's Summary

Ben Mezrich's 2009 best seller The Accidental Billionaires is the definitive account of Facebook's founding - and the basis for the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network. Two of the story's iconic characters are Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss: identical twins, Olympic rowers, and legal foils to Mark Zuckerberg. Bitcoin Billionaires is the story of the brothers' redemption and revenge in the wake of their epic legal battle with Facebook - and the first great audiobook from the world of bitcoin.

Planning to start careers as venture capitalists, the brothers quickly discover that no one will take their money for fear of alienating Zuckerberg. While nursing their wounds in Ibiza, they accidentally run into a shady character who tells them about a brand-new idea: cryptocurrency.

Immersing themselves in what is then an obscure and sometimes sinister world, they begin to realise 'crypto' is, in their own words, 'either the next big thing or total bulls--t.' There's nothing left to do but make a bet.

From the Silk Road to the halls of the Securities and Exchange Commission to the Facebook boardroom, Bitcoin Billionaires will take us on a wild and surprising ride while illuminating a tantalising economic future. On November 26th, 2017, the Winklevoss brothers became the first bitcoin billionaires. Here's the story of how they got there - as only Ben Mezrich could tell it.

Interesting sequel to The Social Network

Interesting at the start to hear what happened to the Winklevous twins after Facebook. It appeared although they have strong morals and are gentlemen of Havard, they continued to strike bad luck. Although it was interesting at the start it was long and dragged on a bit. Not terrible but maybe skip until the end once you start tunning out.

OK but only for BitCoin nuts

Not a great read. A lot of history but not anything anyone would care about unless you wondered what all the hype was. We still don't know the end of the story. An interesting concept but another IT system that is still being plundered by geeks - only on this occasion - you can't sue anyone if you lose your money. The only think about Billionaires is that by definition they were lucky, rather than clever. Had they lost everything no-one would have written the book. Whether there is more money to be made other than those involved early on will; be interesting to experience. I think more billionaires from BC are pretty unlikely.

Another Great Ben Mezrich Read

Loved this story although got a little lost through the middle with some of the characters. Have always been interested in the Bitcoin story and while providing a strong story line learnt a lot as well. Certainly a story of redemption for the Winklevoss brothers.

winklevii

really enjoyed how informative it was and finding out information from the early days of btc was a big plus for me. A lot of the characters I have only heard of since 2017 so I was good to see how they got involved in crypto in the very beginning.
memorable moment. charlie schrem being locked up

disappointed with the narration , I didn't feel if was necessary to put on voices for each character, it made me form a different opinion about each character as the difference voices annoyed me hence the character annoyed me. I feel like narrating in the same voice would of been better

Winklevoss Facebook & bitcoin History

Winklevoss version of events. Definitely interesting if you have no idea of what happened with Bitcoin 2008 to 2015. Charlie Sheen featured heavily. Nice to see Trace Mayer get a passing mention!

Underwhelming story

The problem with Bitcoin Billionaires is that it feels like the first half of a full story. There wasn’t any betrayal and overall it seems very sycophantic (even though they’re impressive) about the Winkelvoss twins.

Enjoyable and relevant

An easy read for the crypto educated or the lay man. An honest, accessible story that reads well and puts the puzzle pieces together for those of us who’s primary access to bitcoin information came post 2016.

A nice tale of industry maturity & early adopters

An enjoyable easy listen about the wild west days of crypto & how early adopters such as the Twins have helped bring maturity to the sector. A chance encounter in Ibiza leads to a billion $ valuation..

Worst Mezrich by some distance

The first 1/2 of this book felt like Mezrich had been threatened by the Winkleboys and so produced the most sycophantic account of them imaginable. Interspersed with this was an interesting account of bitcoin, nothing of any great depth but enough to offset the brown nosing. I was very close to returning this.

Why ruin your reputation by arse licking ?

What is quite an interesting story was turned into a Ridiculous PR stunt. Nobody is buying the story that these two twins are visionary geniuses that have never done a thing wrong. Calling Charlie Shrem a kid is patronising and annoying . Failing to mention any of the negative of his two heroes and bypassing all the drug addiction and scamming and Other nasty stuff that was going on in this bitcoin world just makes the book irritating. The one rowing scene is actually like porn. I actually had to stop reading because I got so annoyed.

Brilliant

One of the best books I have ever listened to.
The book provided so much insight into the characters and their lives, turning what could have been a dull boring book on Bitcoin, into a captivating story of chance, grit and the will to believe.

A story of an authors love affair for the Winkevii

Interesting, engrossing and well written story of the Winklevoss twins x Bitcoin. The only downer is the bias for them being hard done by in previous business dealings..it gets a little tired.
The narration is ok, but I have no idea why they thought doing accents (badly) for figures across the world would be good idea?
