Ölümden son anda kurtulan Mahmut, doğduğu topraklardan ayrılarak hayatını seyyah olarak sürdürmeye başlar. Seyyahlığı sırasında hazinesine yeni kelimeler, yeni bilgiler ekler. Doğduğu topraklara geri döndüğünde 97 yaşındadır, geride birçok eser ve öğrenci bırakmıştır. Tarihe adı Türkçenin Muhafızı Kaşgarlı Mahmut olarak yazılır.
