Publisher's Summary

The complete, unabridged audiobook of The Beatles - All These Years.

The Beatles have been at the top for 50 years, their music remains exciting, their influence is still huge, their acclaim and achievements cannot be surpassed. But who really were the Beatles, and how did they and everything else in the 1960s fuse so explosively?

Mark Lewisohn's three-part biography is the first true and accurate account of the Beatles, a contextual history built upon impeccable research and written with energy, style, objectivity and insight. This first volume covers the crucial and less-known early period - the Liverpool and Hamburg years of a hungry rock and roll band, when all the sharp characters and situations take shape.

This is the Beatles like you've never heard them before. It isn't just 'another book'; it's the book from the world-acknowledged authority. Forget what you know and discover the complete story.

Critic Reviews

"This is the story told in Proustian detail.... The first edited-down volume, is largely a delight, and the story is told so definitively that, after this, that really should be it. Secondary sources are comprehensively mined; letters, public records and business documents have been found in places no one else ever thought to look.... Lewisohn is a Beatles oracle." (John Harris, Guardian)
"Never previously have the Beatles' formative years been recounted in such detail. It is unlikely to be surpassed." (Michael Watts, Daily Telegraph)
"Lewisohn has done an astonishing job. I can't wait for volume two." ( Independent)
"A major event in music publishing this month as Tune In by Mark Lewisohn lands...the definitive account of The Beatles." ( GQ)

Volume 2 please?

A wonderfully written if exhaustive history. I want to read the next part right away. Ranks up there with the Peter Guralnick superb Elvis Bio. Perhaps it lacks the brevity and passion of Nick Tosches incindary Jerry Lee Lewis book Hellfire, but what rock bio doesn't ? Overall a great read. I look forward to the next volume.

Every thing you ever wanted to know about how the Beatles came together.

It fills in so many gaps in the knowledge base of very dedicated Beatle fans. It was off putting when the reader attempted to copy the accents of the characters but apart from that it is a fascinating account of how the Beatles got together. It is amazing how many people were involved and how close the band was to being missed by the whole world if it hadn’t been for a lot of good fortune, dedicated supporters and many others. Lennon and McCartney’s musical talent, personal qualities and their love for each other was examined in granular fashion which confirmed what many of us have always known, that they were beyond great. The importance of Harrison and Starkey was richly captured in this amazing and inspiring band. The way they worked together and the loyalty they genuinely felt was beautifully captured. Still in 2023 the Beatles are known by the world from small children to the older generations. I hope a volume 2 of this book is being published to cover the rest of the Beatles history. It would be a travesty if the remaining 8 years isn’t covered in the wonderful way that the author captures the early Beatles story.

The Only Real Book on The Beatles

A phenomenally researched and written book, narrated with the appropriate gravitas their early years deserve. If only the next book was out already so we could all enjoy the next chapter in the story of the four boys from Liverpool.

Fab telling of the Fabs' story

an incredibly detailed and personal telling of The Beatles' story and legend, no only focused on the four of them, but including detailed background on all of the key players in the background that contributed to the build up and success of The Beatles before they conquered the world musically.

Just stunning.

Mark Lewisohn is known as THE expert on the Beatles, and this amazing book shows why. It's not just a biography, it's a history book providing vast amounts of fascinating new information on a story many of us think we already know. Lewisohn never sensationalises, he doesn't jump to conclusions, he just uses his own meticulous research to tell a great story. Although he's clearly a fan, this is no hagiography - it's warts & all in a way that shows the human beings that the central characters (the Beatles themselves, plus Epstein & Martin) actually were / are.

Far better than any other I've ever read!

This book reveals the Beatles' pre-fab era in superb, palpable detail, far better than any of the books I've read on this topic over the last 40+ years. You could be forgiven for thinking that digging this deep into the Beatles' history would result in rehash and meaningless trivia, but this is definitely not the case here. The level of detail presented here is both relevant and meaningful. To me, the hallmark of great music, films or books is when you forget your present self and, without realising, find yourself on a journey. This book is that good. At times, it felt as if I was there in person.

Clive Mantle's narration is superbly consistent throughout all 43 hours worth and executed with great affection for the subject. To be frank, I didn't want the book to stop. I eagerly await the next volume, which from my understanding may not happen until 2023, or so. Given the level of research that went into this volume, I can understand why.
