Publisher's Summary

In 1982, Sally Morgan travelled back to her grandmother's birthplace. What started as a tentative search for information about her family, turned into an overwhelming emotional and spiritual pilgrimage. My Place is a moving account of a search for truth into which a whole family is gradually drawn, finally freeing the tongues of the author's mother and grandmother, allowing them to tell their own stories.

A poignant rendering of our neglected history

The sad truth of Australian history is that white people enslaved Aboriginal Australians for much of our history. This book tells the story of how the yearning for family and identity is a powerful need. this book opens the eyes to the tragedy of Aboriginal treatment and serves as a lesson on how the little things keep people connected.

Their Place

Always was, Always will be.
Beautifully written, I fell in love with Nan. So happy she wasn't just a fictional character in a novel.

A read for all people, esp the white ones

What a journey listening to Sally Morgan’s story. I was captivated by the narrator from the get go. I experienced every emotion reading this true life tale and will be singing its praises to my family and friends. I’m not Australian but I’m a white New Zealander but regardless there are lessons a plenty, goodness knows we’ve have our own tales in my country but in this instance my heart goes out to all indigenous people around the World who have been oppressed and abused by the white man,in fact for anyone who finds themselves being treated separated out, and are being treated appallingly and unjustly. ‘Be Kind’ is what Um taking away from this book…Just Be Kind. Thank you Sally Morgan for opening my eyes and my heart & sharing your Whanau’s story.
