Publisher's Summary

In Miracles and Mayhem in the ER, Dr. Brent Russell shares true-life stories of his early days as an emergency room doctor. Contemplative and oftentimes hilarious, Dr. Russell leads the listener through the glass doors and down the narrow halls of the ER where desperate patients, young and old, come to get well. Occasionally heart wrenching and always fast-paced, Miracles and Mayhem in the ER will have listeners holding their breath one second and celebrating the next. Through his night shifts at a renowned Portland, Oregon, hospital, Russell discovers his role and his confidence as he treats people from all walks of life, including humanity's most bizarre, in the ER. Each shift brings a new, bracing story to tell.

Honest stories, well told

Al Kessel's narration perfectly matches the demands of Dr Russell's honest, witty, brutal, gentle, and at times tragic recount of the world of emergency medicine.

Fascinating

A story of life in the raw and the daily struggle of a human being who chooses to put himself on the front line of life and death.

I enjoy personal memoirs, I work for couple ER in past I absolutely love this book, Dr Brent Russell’s provide insight, crazy events happens in ER. Book share different stories were sad and some were funny. As much as I enjoy Dr Brent’s writing I enjoy Al Keslar’s narrating style. Author creats a story and Al keslar delivers fantastically.

Not what I thought - but still great!

Based on the audio clip, I assumed it would be a book about different weird and strange stories, unbelievable stories that a layperson would have no idea actually happens in ERs. It wasn't just a list of stories of incredible and crazy things patients have done, but it includes several stories, some unbelievable, some heartbreaking, some funny, of what it is really like to work in an ER. It made your ER doctor human and three dimensional. I listened to it in one day.

FUNNY BOOK!! LOVED IT!!

Where does Miracles & Mayhem in the ER rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I love medical books! This was interesting and at times laugh at loud funny!!

What did you like best about this story?

Peoples stores, it seemed far more Mayhem than the one miracle I thought was in the book, but I didn't care, the mayhem was interesting, funny and crazy!

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The reading voice was a little strange at times, but I could quickly ignore it.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

CRAZY< HIGH DRUNK PEOPLE IN THE ER!!

this was an honest and beautible book! What these heroes deal with and live through, on a daily basis is extraordinary. We should be grateful for their courage and commitment.

Good while doing something boring, terrible accents

Meh. I was on a streak of listening to medical stories and this one just wasn't as well written as the others.

Great read!

As a professional, pre-hospital care giver, I really enjoyed the experiences of the author. Realizing that even Doctors have some of the same fears and concerns that I do, helped boost my confidence. Thank you for sharing!
