Publisher's Summary

Maverick author Hunter S. Thompson introduced the world to "gonzo journalism" with this cult classic that shot back up the best seller lists after Thompson's suicide in 2005. No book ever written has more perfectly captured the spirit of the 1960s counterculture. In Las Vegas to cover a motorcycle race, Raoul Duke (Thompson) and his attorney Dr. Gonzo (inspired by a friend of Thompson) are quickly diverted to search for the American dream. Their quest is fueled by nearly every drug imaginable and quickly becomes a surreal experience that blurs the line between reality and fantasy. But there is more to this hilarious tale than reckless behavior, for underneath the hallucinogenic facade is a stinging criticism of American greed and consumerism.

This book kept me hooked. It is a very different view of the world than in familiar with but the storytelling and the story were excellent

better than the movie (almost!)

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes. the narrator is perfect - sounds just like the characters.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas?

i really like his friend, who keeps saying things like - "as your attorney i advise you to take 3 drops of that liquid in the little brown bottle and the last of the cocaine".

What about Ron McLarty’s performance did you like?

He really sounds like the actors who played the characters in the movie.

A portrait of an age

Funny and entertaining. No doubt the story continues. Brought memories of a unique place.. The place you got to go at least once.

Immersive and hilarious

Classic example of “gonzo” journalism style of Thompson. For those who appreciate some craziness in their lifes

Listen at higher speed.

Ok, the narrator had the wrong idea on delivery, but if you listen on 1.25 x speed it’s Ok.

Simply the best American novel of the 20th century. There’s something in this story that strikes at the very soul of the modern time.

Thompson uses words the way Monet used colour. The section where Thompson reflects on the 60’s, recalling “We were riding a high & beautiful wave” has to be the most stunningly beautiful piece of writing in all of literature.
