A brilliant conception, masterfully executed
I intended to listen only to the two thirds of lectures relating to people of interest but this course is so interesting and entertaining and insightful that I wished it would go on and on. This is the way to make history appealing to every curious person, the use of biography and storytelling to sustain exposition of the times. Highly recommend. You will have an understanding of two hundred years of history as well as of some of the lives that made it and scarcely feel like you've been exerting yourself to learn. I hope school teachers will study how the Professor has done it because, as anyone reading this probably feels strongly, history should be interesting - at minimum - and anything short of that is pretty much a crime. A broad sweep like this gives one a framework, a starting basis, into which more detail can then be folded. I was taught Henry VIII, Weimar, Hitler but never knew where it fitted into the whole. Far better, IMO, to first get a larger idea of the whole first. Two of the most consequential centuries are a good start. I will try and get my 17 year old niece into this but even those familiar with much of this content will, I believe, get plenty out of this. I certainly did and, more to the point, was thoroughly entertained.

Excellent Course
Brilliantly crafted and delivered. Prof. Steinberg is fantastic. This vourse assisted me greatly with my Degree by giving me interesting and informative detail on many key players involved in European history.

Outstanding
Fantastic! Amazing depth and breadth of study, but hugely entertaining. Clearly a passionate lecturer who infects you with his enthusiasm. I will be listening to it again, for sure!
