Editorial reviews

In celebration of its 70th Anniversary, this is the complete and unabridged audiobook of Diary of a Young Girl, the memoir written by Anne Frank and narrated beautifully by English actress Helena Bonham Carter. The tragic early teenage years of Anne’s life that she documented in her diary are as powerful now as it was when it was first discovered and published in the years after World War II. Audible listeners will revisit or discover Anne’s intimate account of survival and family. A heartbreaking memoir from one young witness to a senseless and terrible war.

Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Narrated by Helena Bonham Carter.

The Diary of Anne Frank Is 'A Monument to The Human Spirit'

One of the most famous accounts of living under the Nazi regime comes from the diary of a 13-year-old Jewish girl, Anne Frank. Edited by her father Otto H. Frank and German novelist Mirjam Pressler, this is a true story to be rediscovered by each new generation.

12th July 1944:

'It's difficult in times like these: ideals, dreams and cherished hopes rise within us, only to be crushed by grim reality. It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe, in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.'

In the summer of 1942, fleeing the horrors of the Nazi occupation, Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding in the back of an Amsterdam warehouse.

Aged 13, Anne kept a diary of her time in the secret annexe. She movingly revealed how the eight people living under these extraordinary conditions coped with hunger, the daily threat of discovery and death and isolation from the outside world.

A thought-provoking record of tension and struggle, adolescence and confinement, anger and heartbreak, the diary of Anne Frank is a testament to the atrocities of the past and a promise they will never be forgotten.

Could not be more relevant in 2020

This book was truely amazing and so insightful, I would often forget that young Anne was only 13-15 while writing this. Helena also did a great job depicting Anne's and ultimately brought me to tears in the end.

Wisdom beyond her years

Absolutely loved it.
The wisdom that comes out of Anne at such a young age is astonishing. Wise beyond her years this girl was.. Oh if only she could she where her words have ended up.

If you were to only read one book in your life time, let it be Diary of a Young Girl

It's goes without saying that Diary of
A Young Girl is one of the most important books to have ever been published. I first read it when I was 14, but revisiting it as an adult, I was struck by the talent and genius of Anne. She is an observant and gifted writer who articulates honest, complex, universal truths in ways that writers beyond her years could not accomplish. Her messages of antisemitism and antiracism make her the ultimate voice of peace and acceptance. We should all be paying close attention to the words of Anne Frank.

Loved it

The narrator was great, they really made you feel like you were listening to Anne talk herself. I loved getting to know Anne, a fire cracker and wise. She was definitely ahead of her time with her views on misogyny and bi sexuality. It's hard to not identify with who she was.
A terrific account of events from the past that is insightful.

Life Changer - no matter how old you are

An easy book to listen too because it was engaging and very well read. I feel like I understand our world history so much more because this book not only taught me history but really inspired to research more on my own as well. Poor Anne. thanku for your diary. How horrible the human race truly is.
