What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Why does it feel so natural to be compassionate and kind to those we care about - yet so hard to treat ourselves the same way? "Our culture teaches us to use self-criticism for motivation and to build self-esteem by constantly measuring ourselves against everyone else," says Dr. Kristin Neff. "We need to re-learn the essential skill of being genuinely nurturing and supportive toward ourselves."

Publisher's Summary
Random House presents the audiobook edition of Body Positive Power, written and read by Megan Jayne Crabbe.
If you're tired of being at war with your body, then this audiobook is for you.
We've been convinced that happiness is something that only comes once we hit that goal weight, get those washboard abs, shrink ourselves down and change every part of ourselves. We believe that our bodies are the problem, but this is not true. It’s how we’ve been taught to see our bodies that’s the problem... It's time for us all to stop believing the lies we've been fed about what it means to be beautiful, and take our power back.
Megan's body image issues began when she was five years old. She spent her childhood chasing thinness, and at fourteen found herself spiralling into anorexia. After recovery she spent years dieting, binging, losing and gaining weight. But then she found body positivity, quit dieting, and finally escaped the cult of thin. Now she's determined to let as many people as possible know the truth: that we are all good enough as we are.
With her inimitable flair, whip-smart wit and kickass attitude, Megan argues for a new way of seeing ourselves, and a world where every body is celebrated. Where there is no such thing as a ‘bikini body diet’ and 97% of women don’t hate the way they look.
A powerful call to arms as much as it is inspirational and practical, this audiobook is the life-changing answer you’ve been looking for.

This started a change
This has really swayed my way of thinking and made me see that there may actually be light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to my daily struggle with disordered eating! This book is highly positive, a bit overwhelming but overall- totally essential not just for girls, young people and women but for anyone who has anything to do with girls, young people and women. If you have someone in your life who suffers from disordered eating, it would give them a great insight into how the mind of a person with this disorder works, how they got there and how you can support them to be in a better place.

Great Read
Honestly I'd recommend, Megan shows you the dark side of an eating disorder and the mental struggle one goes thru in order to accomplish their goal. More importantly Megan has made it trigger safe, stating in parts of her book "stop listening, start listening" i found the trigger safe warnings very helpful as the following chapters can be very raw and detailed for those who may be suffering. Thank you for making this book!

Game changer
This book is mind altering and challenges even the most self aware person to look deeper into the social conditioning we are ALL a part of.
It is a book that asks us to question our current belief system around diet culture and unrealistic perceptions of beauty, but most of all, it gives us permission to embrace all that we are, right now, and that that is perfect.
Thank you Megan, you’re brave, inspiring and beautiful!
