Octavio Paz fue un escritor tan mexicano como internacional.
Estuvo activo literariamente desde la década de 1930 hasta su muerte en 1998. Aunque supo ser entre otras cosas ensayista y diplomático, en casi todas sus búsquedas (incluido sus variables compromisos políticos) latía el intento de lograr una comunión entre poesía y vida.
En la obra de Paz dialogaban el surrealismo, la generación del ´27 española, las tradiciones hindúes y las muchas vetas de la cultura mexicana.
Fue Premio Nobel en 1990 y Premio Cervantes en 1981.
De su pluma salieron libros como Libertad bajo palabra, El mono gramático y La llama doble.
