Publisher's Summary

They've always been best friends, but he's never known about her secret fantasy...

Marlowe Glass has always been the girl next door. Responsible and organized, she is raising her orphaned niece while holding down a full time job.

Clark Hudson knows the only woman on the planet who isn’t a man-eater is his best friend, Marlowe. She stood with him in high school and has had his back ever since his wife walked out on him to pursue a career in New York City. They’ve been best friends and neighbors forever.

When a tree falls on her house, of course he offers to allow her to live with him while her house is being fixed.

Their personalities and parenting styles don’t mix - she’s super organized with a rigid schedule and he’s very relaxed, but their years of friendship have given them insight into the other’s personality.

Maybe these best friends could fall in love, if it weren’t for the kids and the ex and the in-laws, along with the fear that they could ruin the best friendship both of them ever had.

Can they risk their lifetime friendship for the chance of a lifetime love?

What an amazing team!

I continue to be amazed at Jessie Gussman's amazing skills as a storyteller! I read plenty of authors and while I have several I would consider top of my list, I think Jessie Gussman is taking over the #1 spot. She brings together engaging characters, a believable and enjoyable storyline and weaves in some incredible humor that actually makes me laugh out loud.

Now that I have had my first experience listening to an audiobook by Jay Dyess, I finally understand what other reviewers have said about this dynamic duo (sorry to Batman and Robin but Jessie and Jay have taken over your catchphrase lol)! Jay Dyess has taken this book to a whole other level of awesome. I cannot wait to build my collection with more from this terrific team.

Best audible I have listened to in months!

This story pulled me into it very quickly. The characters were interesting and believable. Unlike most stories where you can predict where the story will go, this one had a number of surprises. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Adults and kids

The banter between these bfs is golden. Hearing it come alive through Dyess was amazing. I loved listening to these best friends discover a new dimension to their relationship. The closeness between them was portrayed in their voices. The children and the different personalities and speech abilities was phenomenal. It really gets deeply into the heart of being a mom and a wife without an identity outside the home.

Story:
I loved this start to a new series. The town seemed wonderful and I loved the characters. The best friends and single parents dynamic worked out so well. I loved all of the banter and humor. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!

Absolutely amazing, funny and sweet

Marlowe and Clark have been best friends all their lives, they grew up living next door to each other. Clark is a divorced single dad to Huck and Marlowe is raising her niece Kylie who she adopted after her mom, sister and her sisters husband died in an accident. When bad weather hits and there is potential for a tornado Clark, Huck, Marlowe and Kylie seek shelter for the night in Clark’s cellar. Something changes between them that night, something they both think they are imagining. Can they risk their friendship on a relationship? With faith, friendship and hard work they find what God has in store for them.

Thank you Jessie Gussman for giving me the opportunity to listen and review this amazing story, I can’t wait for the next one, I need to find out what interesting things you have in store for Chandler.
Jay Dyess, you did an outstanding job narrating Jessie’s story. I fell in love with your voice instantly. When you were singing the old hymn in the cellar I could feel the calmness it was providing.

So Good!

Loved Clark and Marlowe's story. They had such fun together, they kept me laughing. I listened in one sitting, just couldn't stop. I had to know the out come. If you like clean stories with laughter, you can't go wrong with 'Best Friends in the Show Me State'. I highly recommend. I received this book from the publisher. A most enjoyable friends-to-lovers romance!

Marlowe & Clark share such fun banter that I was fully entertained just reading their repartee, & the way they were always there for each other was pretty dreamy, but I also loved that they handled their concerns about the possibility of messing up their friendship in a realistic way instead of the typical overly angsty fear of communication trope.

And Marlowe's struggle to discern God's will for her life was classic. Sometimes we assume that opportunity equals God's ordaining will when He's actually opening a door to something else for us. In Marlowe's fictional case, being omnisciently aware of her internal struggle with resentment, God could have even been gifting her the opportunity to choose to stay rather than feeling obligated to do so this time.

The story manages to be excellent entertainment and even thought-provoking - certainly one of the author's best!

*Clean romance level: sweet kisses, nothing graphic

[The narrator does an excellent job with the different characters' voices & really enhances the story!]

What can be better than a book by Jessie narrated

Whenever I start a book by Jessie, I know I’m going to love it. Having it narrated by J makes it even better. Clark is a single dad and his best friend Marlo is a single mom to her knees. They rear the children like A platonic couple who live in houses right next-door to each other. After work they spend their nights until bedtime in Clark’s house and especially when the weather is stormy and that’s what happens and how they find itself in the basement when Clark starts looking at more along in a different light. I highly suggest you pay close attention to this part this is when Jay sings and he thinks so well and it almost makes you fall in love with him. So anyway after the storm Marleau is a tree in her house and stays with Clark until it can be fixed and this just muddies the water even more. Clark is having romantic feelings for her, but he scared to ruin the great friendship they have. Little does he know Marlo hey is secret wishes of her own.

This book was so so good. I love the characters and the plot Jessie is such a good writer and having Jay Marie was a stroke of genius I hope he never writes all the rest of her books. I highly recommend this if you love romance. I love how she makes God a part of the book and always a part of the couples relationship.

A beautifully written,expertly narrated romance.

This is the first story by Jessie Gussman that I have had the pleasure of listening to and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A beautiful story that had my attention straight from the beginning. With believable characters that I was rooting for,all the way through.
Jay Dyess is a completely new narrator to me and I must say I thoroughly
enjoyed listening to his voice. He did a smashing job of bringing these characters and their story to life.
I highly recommend you dive in and enjoy listening to a great story of friendship turning to love, you won't be disappointed.
I am definitely looking forward to listening to more of this series of Audiobooks
