Story
Time is a mystery that does not cease to puzzle us. Philosophers, artists and poets have long explored its meaning while scientists have found that its structure is different from the simple intuition we have of it. From Boltzmann to quantum theory, from Einstein to loop quantum gravity, our understanding of time has been undergoing radical transformations. Time flows at a different speed in different places, the past and the future differ far less than we might think, and the very notion of the present evaporates in the vast universe.

Publisher's Summary
Benedict Cumberbatch reads these four new Sherlock Holmes stories by John Taylor: 'An Inscrutable Masquerade', 'The Conundrum of Coach 13', 'The Trinity Vicarage Larceny' and 'The 10.59 Assassin'.
Inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes stories, John Taylor has written four more mysteries featuring the world's greatest detective.
Read by acclaimed actor Benedict Cumberbatch, these new adventures share all the suspense of the original tales.
In a drawer in his bureau, Dr. Watson keeps a locked cedarwood chest - a 'box of secrets'.
It contains an archive of notes referring to some of Holmes' cases that, for one reason or another, never saw the light of day. Now, for the first time, Watson has decided to reveal the truth to the world....
In these four thrilling stories, Holmes experiments with the science of ballistics, locates some missing gold bullion, investigates the theft of a large amount of money and solves the baffling mystery of the Stovey murder.

Great stories in the traditional Doyle. Some of the antagonists are predictable but it is always fun seeing Holmes whittle away at their false senses of security. For more Holmes stories check out ‘Sherlock Holmes’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (read by Stephen Fry) and ‘James Moriarty Consulting Criminal’ by Andy Weir (read by Graeme Malcolm).

No One Writes Holmes Like Doyle
I've read almost every Holmes story there is and I'm a huge fan of Cumberbatch's interpretation in the BBC's current iteration.
I was more than a little disappointed, then, to find that these stories did not capture my interest at all. The first was so obvious, with so little mystery, that I was yelling the conclusion at the unbearably slow Dr. Watson about midway through. The other stories improved in complexity somewhat, but without the extraordinary amount of knowledge that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle brought to his tales, Mr. Taylor's Holmes didn't seem to know much more about the world than I did myself.
Benedict Cumberbatch's performance was as delightful and nuanced as one would expect, so the read wasn't a total loss. And the quality of the writing itself was very good. It just wasn't the Sherlock Holmes I know and love.

Not Doyle
Though the stories are likeable they seem mostly like Sherlock Holmes because of Benedict Cumberbatch's reading of them than the stories themselves. Taylor is not another Arthur Conan Doyle for sure, but not bad either.
Cumberbatch is great, though most of his different 'accents' are rather similar. He is Sherlock and it is a little difficult to listen to him read the stories as Watson, but this is a personal issue.

What made the experience of listening to Benedict Cumberbatch Reads Sherlock Holmes' Rediscovered Railway Stories the most enjoyable?
I love Benedict Cumberbatch. Great voice to listen to as well and his performance of the characters is really great.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Watson. Usually in Sherlock Holmes stories Sherlock Holmes is my favorite character but in this series of short stories you just have more information and insight into Waston as the stories are told from his point of view and they are so short.
Any additional comments?
Not quite as good as any of the original stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle but still entertaining and intriguing.

Good show
Well read and the puzzle or pieces of each of these crimes is explained by Holmes as he reveals the villain, but like the train's station stops the explanations are a bit brief. I feel both Watson and I are a bit dazed. They are short, enjoyable stories for all that.

Entertaining
Surprisingly in keeping and realistic stories, I have read some 'new' Sherlock Holmes stories which have really grated, but these short ones are very good. Benedict Cumberbatch reading is good, although could have done with slightly more variation between Holmes and Watson to tell them apart. The other characters narration was good.
