About this listen

Bendito is a short novel set in 1999 during the Y2K scare in the fictional city of Santa Lucia, Pennsylvania, where a large population of Latinos practice Santería. Bendito follows Maritza Cruz, a young woman who is the girlfriend of the talented and successful artist, Omar Rivera. Feeling distressed about her derailed creative dreams and jealous of her boyfriend, Maritza decides to start her own magazine, but it doesn’t get the attention she wants. She therefore accepts her best friend’s invitation to attend a Santería party and seeks the help of a santero, Baz Santiago, to hasten her success. A truth is hidden from her in her card reading with Baz and she must then put her wants aside to stop a sinister plan.
