Publisher's Summary

The fourth spellbinding book in the epic Clifton Chronicles series

Be Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry Clifton and his wife, Emma, rushing to hospital to learn the fate of their son, Sebastian, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. But who died, Sebastian or his best friend Bruno?

When Ross Buchanan is forced to resign as chairman of the Barrington Shipping Company, Emma Clifton wants to replace him. But Don Pedro Martinez intends to install his puppet, the egregious Major Alex Fisher, in order to destroy the Barrington family firm just as the company plans to build its new luxury liner, the MV Buckingham. Back in London, Harry and Emma's adopted daughter wins a scholarship to the Slade Academy of Art where she falls in love with a fellow student, Clive Bingham, who asks her to marry him. Both families are delighted until Priscilla Bingham, Jessica's future mother-in-law, has a visit from an old friend, Lady Virginia Fenwick, who drops her particular brand of poison into the wedding chalice.

Then, without warning, Cedric Hardcastle, a bluff Yorkshireman who no one has come across before, takes his place on the board of Barringtons. This causes an upheaval that none of them could have anticipated, and will change the lives of every member of the Clifton and Barrington families. Hardcastle's first decision is who to support to become the next chairman of the board: Emma Clifton or Major Alex Fisher? And with that decision, the story takes yet another twist that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Suspense

Well the author knew how to keep one on the edge of the seat (and sell more books while at it) 😋

The twists , turns and revenge continue

This instalment begins with Emma and Harry Clifton believing their son has been killed in a car accident.

The story provides more " just one more chapter" listening moments. With a large range of characters, different agendas, people playing, being played and seekig revenge upon revenge, never a dull moment.

Whilst more predictable than previous instalments still kept me hooked . As with previous books in the series we are left with a cliff hanger.

Looking forward to the next instalment.

Alex Jennings narration just adds to the listenimg experience. Highly recommend.

Archer in his full stride

What a good storyteller Mr Archer is. All the elements which make him a great writer are here in this gripping yarn and so well read by Alex Jennings who does a Stirling job with the many and varied accent. I can't wait for the next instalment

Gripping

Another fantastic book in this series. It is amazing how each book draws you into the next and propels you through. Such a captivating narrative. Unlike the earlier books however, this is lacking the female narrator, which is somewhat disappointing, if only because it provides variation in tone.

Back on track

I have been a little critical of the last two, but back on track, thoroughly enjoyed this one. My only criticism is the length of each book in this series are a bit short for the cost compared to most I listen too, but certainly the quality is back with this one.
