About this listen

Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, U.S. Army, was as good a rifle company as any in the world. From their rigorous training in Georgia in 1942 to D-Day and victory, Ambrose tells the story of this remarkable company, which kept getting the tough assignments. Easy Company was responsible for everything from parachuting into France early D-Day morning to the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden.

Band of Brothers is the account of the men of this remarkable unit who fought, went hungry, froze, and died, a company that took 150 percent casualities and considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers' journals and letters, Stephen Ambrose tell the stories - often in the men's own words - of these American hereoes.

Critic Reviews

"A first-class explanation of what crack infantry troops are like....Addicts of military history will relish its finely detailed account.....Stephen Ambrose's thorough research and clear organization have produced a highly readable account of the heroic service of this "band of brothers" he so unstintedly admires." ( San Francisco Chronicle)
"As a member of just such a unit...I am impressed by how well Mr. Ambrose has captured the true essence of a combat rifle company." (The New York Times Book Review)
"A valuable and fascinating record....In these pages, the reader can vicariously walk with the men of E Company, suffer and laugh with them." (The Times-Picayune)

Really enjoyable. I must say however that all memorable moments were also in Band of Brothers - having watched that, you don't get a whole lot more out of this than that amazing show

The audio quality and narration were excellent and the account of the soldiers’ stories was outstanding. I feel like I really got to know them as men and soldiers.

Outstanding account of what Easy Company went through and achieved

I have read this book and thoroughly enjoyed it, and now I have also enjoyed this audio edition. Not written like hero worship or sensationalistic, it is just a factual and fascinating account of the men from Easy Company, and the almost unbelievable courage they had during WW2. The only reason I took a star off the performance was due to the narrator mispronouncing names, not only of some of the members of the company, but also of many of the towns in France.

A fantastic book

Having read Band of brothers years ago - it was absolute honour to hear these stories again in audio format. Stephan Ambrose has made WW11 history accessible and relatable to all and this very human story of the men of Easy informs and educates on the battles and campaigns of the war that no other writer has achieved. I’ve just finished the final chapters now and was sad to say ‘goodbye’ to ‘moose’ to ‘babe’ to’ niks’ and the extraordinary Major Winters...

What an honour to spend some time with Easy Company

I’ve watched the TV series around a dozen times or so and regard it as the best television ever made. It’s insane how closely they nailed the series from this book. Every chapter you can picture the characters and scenery so closely. The only small gripe like others have pointed out is the narrator mispronounces names and places… particularly the town of ‘Bastogne’ which is only mentioned about 87 times in the book so it gets annoying after a while! Apart from that I loved every second of it. will listen to it again soon I am sure.

As gripping as the TV series
