Publisher's Summary

Just when I thought I'd seen it all....

After 20-plus years in the land of the not-so-living, I didn't think a ghost could surprise me. Consider that winning streak over. While looking for the perfect piece of Seattle real estate, leave it to me to find the world's first ghost detective.

Yeah, you heard that right. A ghost detective.

The Supernatural Protection Agency has written her off as the ghost who cries murder, but this time she swears she's onto something big. Something real.

Like a moth to a bonfire, I dive in headfirst, just in time for the trouble she's been following to take a U-turn.

Lucky me.

House Hunting Hijinks and Reckless Protagonist

The first four volumes of this series were stellar and the last three I have not enjoyed to the same extent. It is somewhat interesting that I feel Scarlet and Holly from the other Beechwood series have swapped characteristics--where Holly has grown and in some ways become less willing to pull herself and all her loved ones into terrible danger, Scarlet seems to be MORE willing to run right into clearly unsafe situations alone without sometimes even ghost friend back up and with very little reason to explain why she is so willing to do so. This is very much the case in this story. I also found myself thinking how difficult it is to navigate the relationship with Lucas and Scarlet, with her being magical and a good portion of her life spent communicating to ghosts wherever the couple goes without Lucas being privy to any of this as well as Lucas being far more vulnerable to magic. I was also surprised by how little the detective ghost that is mentioned in the book description is even present in the story. The story as expected tidily wraps up in a happily ever after despite some moments feeling very dire. For those who have enjoyed every volume in this series you are sure to enjoy this one as well. Amanda's narration is fantastic and the characters are fun though again felt like there was more repetition in the ghostly trio jokes than real growth or progress, things feel a little stale. These stories are again better than many cozies but to be honest this one was beginning to feel a bit tired and more of the same. I look forward to the next story and am staying optimistic that the growth that has occurred with characters in the other series will happen here.
