Essential Guide to Herbs

This book is an excellent guide for beginners and experienced herbalists as well. It offers so much information about how each herb (51 of them are listed here) can assist you with digestive issues, anti-inflammatory help, skin conditions, and so much more! It painstakingly goes through each herb, identifying its healing properties, how to use it, and even grow it. A final chapter helps on how to shop for the best, freshest herbs. This is truly a back-to-basics book that I will refer to often! (This also includes a PDF when purchased). I highly recommend it as your definitive herbal resource guide.

Extremely educational 

This book is fantastic. I had no idea all the benefits in different herbs. I love how the author broke down medicinal benefits, how to use the herb & how to cook with the herb. Also going through each individual type was extremely educational. I will be buying the paperback version so that I can reference it.

An Illuminating Journey!

I started this year wanting to eat more natural and heal my body with natural remedies rather than relying on non-natural medicines. such an interesting book

I have never "listened" to a recipe/food/cooking/natural remedy book before. I don't know much about lots of these spices and this gave me a solid introduction. I liked the attached PDF and all the websites to great recipes categorized by spice! So, next summer when my neighbor gives me LOADS of fresh basil and rosemary I know right where to go to get recipes for these spices. Thanks!

Straight from the kitchen

This book is exactly what I needed. No fluff, just straight to the point going through plants that you probably already have in your kitchen. At least I did. I’ve been so inspired by how to use those herbs, I’ve just made myself a rosemary, sage and ginger tea, and I’ve put a stew on for tonight! I just love how using herbs is made simple in this book.

Simple ingredients for big changes

This is not the first book of this author's that I have listened to and I continue to enjoy the information being shared. I have been looking for ways to improve my family's health with a more natural approach. We seem to easily fall ill and each of us has our ailments that we battle I would love to help teach my kids a more natural way to help ourselves outside of doctors. The book is laid out in a way that each herb is listed out per chapter and then the author explains the various ways the herb can help us. Like learning how ginger helps our digestion so adding some ginger into your tea or your meal can significantly reduce the amount of digestion issues you have. Also, cayenne pepper has many benefits such as boosting metabolism and reducing inflammation. My husband suffers from severe back pain and arthritis so we have already started adding cayenne pepper in with some meals and he has noticed a difference in how he feels.

The author gives you various ways of how to incorporate these herbs into your daily lives which took away a lot of the stress for me as I am a terrible cook so something as simple as a dash hear and there to a meal sounds super easy and will have huge payoffs.

Bring great flavor + improve health via this book

This book is a thorough introduction to the world of herbs and spices and how they can enhance your health and well-being, along with the flavor of your cooking with recipes provided. Nature is filled with plants that can be used as tea, or flavor-enhancing ingredients to help you achieve a healthy balance in your daily diet. Learn about the benefits of turmeric which I have used regularly for many years. Learn also about essential oils and compresses, and how to make and use them properly. The delightful aroma of rosemary, mint, or thyme can help in the health of our bodies, as well as make our foods more delicious. There is so much depth in this book and the author's research that I am certain that you can derive benefit from it. There are also wonderful recipes included. I highly recommend this book!

An Invaluable Health Booster

"Back to Basics: Lost in the Herbal Wilderness" is an informative resource for people like me who prefer to use herbal remedies. I find this book particularly interesting because of the range of natural products it presents, explaining in detail, offering up to 10 individual benefits, their uses in promoting good health.

I was particularly impacted by range of herbs that I have in the home, but not knowing their uses... until now. I have had rosemary in my garden for years and all I used it for was for its wonderful aroma. I will never look at rosemary, or indeed parsley, oregano, mint, thyme, vanilla, tumeric or peppers, in the same way from now on. I feel empowered by this book!

The book is written in an accessible style that makes it easy for beginners to understand and follow. I am particularly pleased to have found this book and added it to my arsenal. It is my go-to resource in my pursuit of optimum health.
