FROM THE HOST OF THE HIT PODCAST I CATCH KILLERS

THE BESTSELLING TRUE CRIME BOOK OF 2022

As a cop, I used to sit on one side of the interview room table facing murderers, child abductors and rapists. Now I'm sitting on the other side: disgraced, forced out of the police and judged to be a criminal. I want to show you what the world looks like from here.

Talking to crooks, cops, forensic psychologists, scientists and victims, I've gone back to some of Australia's worst acts of badness, including unsolved murders that never made the front pages as well as infamous killings carried out by Ivan Milat and the Granny Killer, the murder of Anita Cobby, the Hoddle Street massacre, Port Arthur, horrific abuse at the Parramatta girls' home and the disappearance of preschooler William Tyrrell.

What I've found has made me question everything, including where evil comes from, what drives us to commit crimes and how we can prevent them. I used to think I was on the side of the angels. Now I am not so sure.

Gary Jubelin was one of Australia's most celebrated Homicide detectives, leading investigations into the William Tyrrell case, the serial killing of three Aboriginal children in Bowraville and the brutal gangland murder of Terry Falconer. In 2020, he was found guilty of illicitly recording conversations with a witness. Since leaving the NSW Police Force, he has built a career in the media, working in newspapers, television and podcasts. Gary still works hard to help the victims of crime.

Bitter and Hypocritical

Struggled to finish this, Gary's experience with the end of his police career has filled this book with justifications. I am not sure why Gary found is necessary to mention uneeded cruel observations of victims of crime. Along with his clearly biased views of suspects in current investigations. Disappointed, was a fan .

Felt part of the journey in thought

Really enjoyed this Gary. In fact, it's the first audio book I've finished without getting bored mid way through. It takes a bit to really capture me. I felt like I was in your thoughts with you when you jumped back and forth between applying past experiences into the present. I really enjoyed hearing you speak about the podcast guests aswell. I've listened twice over to every episode of your podcast and I still learned new information in the book. I really feel like this book showcased your transformation and highlight real emotion around your position as a detective. I truly hope you get to do another book, you can tell when you speak that there is a whole other world sitting in your memory bank and it sneaks in and out during this book. Whilst your treatment from the NSW police hasn't been one of high regard, you still can hear your detective brain and your passion for victims. I would encourage anyone to listen/read to this book.

Inspirational and honest!

Absolutely loved this, so open and honest and whilst his and my story are very different when it comes to trauma, I can most definitely feel where he comes from and react to a lot of his story and feelings. It’s also great to be able to take his feelings/ rage and resentment and be able to let go of many things (or at least help with) this. I really wish you all the best Gary and I’m looking forward to your next publication/ book!

Gary is a Legend

Gary never ceases to inspire and amaze me with his ability to reflect on his own motivations and take responsibility for his actions. As the mother of two Aboriginal sons he gives me hope and I’m so glad he is standing on our side. The culture is safer for him being in our world.

Some powerful stuff in this book

I was very impressed with the first book from the co authors of “I catch killers”.this book is just as good. Maybe a little bit more confronting. Some of the stories bought me to tears, but we have to face up to the fact that there is a lot of badness out there.!!still a great read/highly recommended.
