You can't reach inside somebody's head and flick a motivation switch. But leaders can create an environment where motivated people are able to thrive — or an environment that slowly knocks the motivation out of them.
Christine explores the GAF'er Principle: recruit people who give a damn, understand what matters to them, make expectations clear, give them room to think and act, and don't manage the GAF'erness out of them.
And when you've provided good leadership, clarity, support and opportunity and somebody persistently still doesn't give a damn, perhaps it's time to stop trying to push the rock up the hill.
