Summary

 October 1997, the night before Halloween. In the small town of Burson, New Hampshire, the Cutter family has been running a hayride through their back woods for thirty years. Everyone knows the route—past the old sawmill, through the corn maze, and into the clearing where they tell the story of Ezra Cutter, the miller who disappeared in '67. But this year, the tractor takes a wrong turn. The driver doesn't speak. The path leads somewhere the lantern light can't reach.
